Didn't know where to post this so:-
Could I use ACF 50 as a chain lube?
Regards Len.

You could, but it has zero anti-fling ability so it would have to be constantly replaced
Best stuff I have ever found is chain saw lube
Very very similar to chain lube for about a 1/4 the price

Okay, thanks guys.
I'll 'ave a look at that chainsaw lube.
Someone else has said try 70/80/90 hypoid gear oil ?
I've been using some of the "WD40, specialist motorcycle chain lube"
Picked up couple of the small cans from Aldi a while ago, seems ok but, don't last long !

Pretty much any oil will lubricate a chain but as Jaws said keeping it on there is the problem hence the use of dedicated motorcycle chain lube, for the price of it I don't see any point in trying to reinvent the wheel by trying other things

I use Motul its cheap enough, readily available & I have no complaints, I think where most people go wrong is either forgetting to lube regularly or omitting to clean the chain a few times a year ;)

I agree, but rather than the oil they supply at silly money I use chain saw oil :)

No idea.. I have always just gone to the garden centre and buy a 5 lite litre pot .. costs about £12 !

Well if it's good enough for you, then it's good enough for me.

Funnily enough, I've seen the reverse argument on Arb forums between the tree felling guys.
Some use proper chain and bar oil, some use motor engine oil, some use old motor engine oil, some use gearbox oil..... and one or two even use motorcycle chainlube..!

I'd go with chainsaw oil as it has to cope with much tougher conditions than bike chain oil.
