John, there may not be a problem there, I swapped bikes with a mate of mine for about 50 miles last summer, so I was following my own bike, a 2002 xx2. I was convinced that the lower bulb was flickering. but after futher investigation found that the lower lens refracts the light like its the bulb flickering.

Good point but this was def going on and off completely.. Dull overcast day and travelling at a reasonable speed so had plenty of time to watch and enjoy ! LOL !!
