Hi all,
I move to New Zealand recently and plan on making it my permanant home. Wide open roads, beautiful scenery, cheap bikes etc etc

If you fancy taking a look at my new '04 Bird and a typical Kiwi backdrop - look here> http://uploads.savefile.com/redir/48188.jpg

Nice shot,

A word of warning whilst in Kiwi land do not wear and sheepskin clothing with the woolly bit on the outside.

if you see a Kiwi shepard looking over a cliff with a sheep in front of him he isn't there for the view :}

G'day BBB and welcome

I moved over in '75 and live not far from Lake Taupo and Rotorua so if you're ever up this way, give us a call. Here's me among the active volcanoes in the Central North Island when our very own Clive was over here visiting. Pleased to see that you've got the he-man colour too. Easey Rider has just moved over from the UK to Auckland and he's got a blue 'un too.

Know Christchurch well - daughter is at varsity there. If you haven't discovered the vintage car and classic bike shop opposite the bus station, it's an absolute must. They had a Rob North 70's racing Trident in there recently.

Ignore Jack, sheep are fine with a bit of lipstick and they push back well at the edge of a cliff.

I'm coming to the south island next May to take part in the Southern Cross ~4000 k's in 5 day ride. See you there?

Cheers

Geoff

Very, very nice

A friend of mine emigrated to NZ in June. He lives near Blenheim. He had a VFR400 in the UK. He has got himself a 4x4 now but hopes to have a bike again once the wife and the two breadsnappers have settled down.

Hi Roxxo and BBB

Roxxo - Blenheim is a lovely place - wine-growing country with seafood close by too. You should visit your mate!

BBB - You'll find info and an entry form for the Southern Cross on this site: www.rustynuts.co.nz/. It's only held every 2 years. This time, it starts at Bluff at the southern tip of the south island at 1pm on May 8th. You have to check in at the northermost tip of the north island at mid-day 3 days later. You then have a further 2 days to check in at the eastermost point of the north island followed by the westernmost point. You average about 800 k per day with a fair bit of riding in the dark. If you pm me with your email address, I'll send you an article with photos from when my mates did it last year. I was in the UK at the time and missed it, so still have something to prove (probably that I'm a complete pillock for wanting to do it!)

Cheers

Geoff

Hi Geoff

Just back from 10 days down south. Best cycle country in the world. You will catch up with my mate Duncan on the Southern Cross. He's definitely going to do it on his new 04 Bird (ex Nelson). We must catch up at some stage...

Cheers

Sounds like an average weeks work for a BIRD Trucker.....LOL

Seiously though... Wonderful pics from both of you guys... Jan & I priced up a riding holiday in New Zealand, but it worked out at nearly ?5000 for the two of us... Too much for us really :B and we could only get a VFR (not enough "Ummmph" for a bloater like me.

Maybe if we win the lottery, we will get to see you wonderful country.

Keep the pics coming,

Best wishes,

Rolfy & Jan

Hi Zed - nice to see another 'bird down under

Yep, the South Island is fantastic - spent a month down there with my wife in her MX 5 4 years ago and had an incredible time. Still didn't stop me frothing at the mouth every time a bike came past though!

Meeting up would be good and you're always welcome to stop off in Tokoroa or at our holiday place on Coromandel Harbour. We'll be up there from Xmas Eve to about Jan 2nd, not to mention most weekends! You'll have to catch up with Easey Rider too from Albany - great guy.

Rolfy - would love to see you and Jan here at any time. Welcome to stay with us for as long as you like to cut costs. Forget official rental companies, you can hire second hand big bikes from most bike dealers at much better rates.

Just to tempt you all into visiting Coromandel in particular, here's a shot of our place from the rear, plus me and my mates at a recent "boy's weekend" up there. I'm in the red and Easey Rider is next to me. Will post some pics of the local roads when after I come back next time.

Off Xmas shopping in an hour on the 'bird to the next town!

Merry Xmas and safe riding

Geoff

Magnificent photos....

If they don't attract a few UK-based 'bird owners, I don't know what will  Can't wait to get down there. The attachments are a couple of photos that my mates took on the last Southern Cross.

PS Glad to see your 'bird is the "right" colour.
