So is the Battle of the Boyne...:rolleyes::rolleyes:
And they both resulted in a cost of a lot of lives and money.

And many others.
The view is that the police attack on a civil rights set off the troubles.

Neither side exactly covered their selves in glory on many occasions. My personal hope is that by the time people of our generation pass on, that the troubles for many in the north and south almost forget about them as an everyday thing.

Agreed that is one view. The IRA were very quick to take over the whole protest movement. BUT IT IS HISTORY AND WE ALL NEED TO MOVE ON. :D

If only James and William hadn't decided to have their fight in Ireland and invited the locals to join in to make matters worse. :D

Unfortunately not.
I was northward few weeks ago.
I was told speed of getting planning permission or getting it at all depends on which side you are on.

As I said, I hope he's wrong.

What absolute crap that man is talking. Sinn Fein/IRA turned to peaceful methods of getting what they want because security on them had got so tight they could not breathe. The few nutters left trying to cause mayhem are virtually useless. Everyone knows there will eventually be a united Ireland and the whole border issue is blown out of all proportion by remainers/politicians to try to keep the UK and it's money inthe EU.

You were over recently, what's the mood there now. What I was told wasn't great.
I saw a headline of study claiming 10,000 job losses due to Brexit.

Not to mention losses in south.

He's an arse, an arch remainer and on channel 4 news and some remainers, have sought to bring back the ghosts of christmas past in the hope of stopping brexit.

All through the brexit discussions, the U.K. ha said there will never be the border checks of old on the Northern Irish side, full stop, if there is a need of some form of accounting which most of the questions are about, then a system such as the dartford tunnel of advance charges anpr MIGHT happen and even this, could be greatly reduced by a trusted trader advance notice system, look up the guinness runs between north and south as a business that might benefit from one.

The only people pushing the troubles will kick off again are remainers and the eu. Why? Because it is written in the eu constitution that there must be a hard border with checks, where a non eu country meets a eu country. So even if the uk says you know what, no border will be on ourside, the eu by it's own rules, will walk all over the good friday agreement and impose a hard border. Rather than be honest about that , they bring up the ghosts of christmas past

Perhaps the "EU Army" would like to police the Eire side of the border, post Brexit.

Varadkar has been played and I think he's starting to realise it.

The border issue is not an issue. The U.K. has offered a way to avoid borders of the past and has said, no border patrols and hard border like the days of old, the eu knows it has within it's constitution that it must have a hard border and border guards making checks. IF they respected the good friday agreement, which they constantly say they do, then that is their get out clause for their own standards.

It is a technical issue that has been turned into a political issue because the eu commission has always hoped it would be the point that stops brexit. That having failed, it's likely a fudge will now happen to protect German business on the matter of brexit. This will make Varadkar feel what others knew, the border was never an issue and he has been played by the big boys.

I was over for about 10 days, Alec and did not find a single person who gave a shit about the border issue. The general view amongst the prods was that this was much overblown and would have much more effect on the South which was why Varadker was making such a song and dance about it. Most of NIs trade (and the South's) is with mainland UK and their main concern was that there was no border in the Irish sea. My bets are that this will fizzle away to nothing. As I've said before the simple solution is for Eire to leave the EU and join their biggest trading partner.....the UK. :D
