Hi All,

Have seen a 2001 Y plate last of the carb versions of the CBR1100 for sale but the advert states that its got two problems, one being a slight blow from the collector box and the other being a flat spot midrange. The question is are these simple issues to resolve are they know problems?

Bike is said to only have just over 9K miles on the clock.

Any advice thoughts very much appretiated.

Cheers

red ones are faster
it would not be a carb bike on a 2001 so there could be your problem

sounds like a carb problem as the air box would give you the flat spot at that RPM

carbs stopped 1999

the blow on the collector box could cause the flatspot.

Cheers folks, yep she is deffinetly a carb model seemingly it was registered late thats all. So anything after 99 should be fuel injected are they better?

Have seen a 2001 Y reg also, its done 19K miles should still be ok at that miles?

Blow on the collector box is that likly to need new downpipes?? Asking these daft questions as the bike is down in Manchester and im in Aberdeen.

Cheers

Bobs was a 2001 on carbs too.

Flat spot is well known and the collector box issue wouldn't help. New stainless or second hand stainless downpipes avaialble for sub ?200. If flat spot is too bad dynojetting can help.

so can hondas own jet kit, which i know they did offer cause i have it.

Collector box

If the collector box has the blow at an accessible place welding or brazing would keep it going for a while and save ?250 for new downpipes!

Carb down pipes rust, injection are stainless.

Yes, I have been told that...BUT the second-hand pipes ( with blanking plug in the sensor hole) I've just fitted to my Carb Bird ARE off an FI Bird and ARE NOT stainless. I know some stainless steel will get a small amount of oxidation on the surface but these aint stainless.

:dunno:

What's "stan" less anyway.

I would prefer a carb model as I think they are better than early injection and less juicy. Possibly balancing the carbs would help. If you buy a carb tune kit such as a morgan carbtune pro. You would only have to use it once and it would have paid for it's self. Remember FI was only introduced for emission control not because it's better. If in doubt go for it;-0))

fuck off knobcheese. What do you know, it's not as if you're in the trade or anything. High and low carbon steel is NOT considered stainless (or Loretta less) and ...... oh fuck it I can't be arsed..............

read what i feckin wrote you feckin knobcheese smearer. All steel is STANless, yer feckin blind twat.

PS we have a nice little niton gun here, you point at the metal it goes bleep and then the screen tells you what it is down to the last 0.01% but we aint allowed to point it at each other cause it takes an x-ray in order to give the contents.

You'll believe owt

it is stainless steel though according to Honda and I believe them.

Honda also say there is no design fault with the Loom.

Wolfie, our Niton guns go doen to twoo noughts wha'eva, but I aint taking the Bird to the fookin scrapyard for it testin'....and they wont let the Niton guns out of their sight either.

Steel containing at least 11% Chrome is classed as Stainless.

2 noughts is .00 same as ours, does yours have the precious metal settings as well? we were going to buy the ones that do the alu grades as well but they aint accurate enough so we are sticking with the spectrometer for that.

Nah.....don't think so and would very much doubt it. I'd imagine they'd cost even more of a fortune. :dunno:

Get ya own fekkin room

opinions differ from 10,5 - 12% on this one.

Whose opinions :dunno: .....opinions matter not a jot.

Occasionally make a 9%CrMo grade....everyone calls it a Stainless grade...but it's always been from 12% Cr and up before it's called stainless proper.,..and as you know there are sooooo many grades of Stainless steel.

Have spent the last 30 odd (very odd) years making and pouring the stuff.

Hey anoraks there's 4 type of stainless in varying grades:

Austenitic, Ferritic, Martensitic and PH.p0pc0rn41About one hundred different grades in these groups. Yawn! Be it a pressed kitchen sink or 15000psi autoclave fitting. Fook I'm boringc7u8
