Good news, got an email when I got home the range has reopened .
One of our members has erected a feeding station and table to one side of the 50 metre range, and he usually keeps it well stocked so it’s not unusual to see squirrels, songbirds and bunnies attending, a few years ago we shut down one set of butts because a pair of perigrines had nested in the cliff face above the bullet trap, a couple of cock pheasants are regulars and quite often when shooters are there, it’s quite bizarre to see chaps unload and let them by so they can feed, it does come as a surprise to visitors but it’s nice to see attitudes change.
Shit day to a shit week, i'm surrounded by incompetent feckin baffoons at work.

What you making the blade out of?Started to shape a handle out of a hickory hammer stale for a little skinning knife I am making for a mate, reasonably happy with how its going so far
I have run out of 01 steel so decided to chop a bit out of an old stone cutting saw blade, its thin & a little flexable so perfect for a skinner, as it is it will take an edge but I am not sure it will hold one ...... just have to see what happens in the heat treat I suppose mateWhat you making the blade out of?
Cheaper way is to melt a razor blade into a toothbrush.I have run out of 01 steel so decided to chop a bit out of an old stone cutting saw blade, its thin & a little flexable so perfect for a skinner, as it is it will take an edge but I am not sure it will hold one ...... just have to see what happens in the heat treat I suppose mate
if its crap it will end up as another display piece & I will have learned something
ps I got a slightly modern take on a brokeback seax out of an old bastard file too at the moment, thats hard & I mean really hard, annealed it already & it was still a bugger to cut or drill
