WeyHey!!! It starts with easy-start with no fuel tank on, so its not electrical/alarm related.

So new vacuum pipe tomorrow and see if it was as simple as that..

I feel like i'm getting somewhere now.. thanks folks!@tu*

If the vacuum pipe was split you will get no fuel period. The diaphragm will not open so fuel stays put, also bike would run rough as a feckin pig for the time it did run

It just seems strange that it was running lovely for 75 miles then we slowed down to go thru a town and it just stopped dead. why would it just go like that?

AAAAARGGHHHH!!!!

Ignore all that. I had put the pipe on the wrong bit (it was the petrol tank breather) I just put it on the right one and got fuel all over my arms... DOH!!!!!

So back to square one

I gonna get a new pipe as the one on it had a splitter going to an old scott-oiler

I will see what happens..

I'll also give dampstart a go as well and let you know

was the old pipe still blocked off to the scott oiler as if not that would be your problem

as you say your using the same pipe to test it and you say its working

:dunno::dunno:

The pipe was still connected to the scott oiler, I removed the splitter and sucked on both pipes seperately, so if the problem was the splitter or the oiler then this wouldn't have shown up doing this, so i'll get another complete pipe on it tomorrow and hope for the best..

Just a thought as I think this is proly fuel related but .. BUT.... did you notice if the speedo or rev counter dropped to zero when it died ?

Didn't notice no. we were only going 20mph so it was all very quick to a stop

What are you thinking?

question for John or anyone who knows, does the Bird fuel tap on the carb not have a PRI position? on my XJR you could turn it to PRI and I believe that bypassed the vacuum diaphragm for difficult starting conditions, yes? no? maybe?.........

Not sure about the PRI on the fuel tap.
I'll look later,
just gonna try the new pipe first and take it from there.

easiest way is if some one near you with a bird and swop tanks this will comfirm the diaphram prob. I was lucky with mine as I was near home just leaving for the jaws bash and mine went so nicked tank off my other bird.
I doubt very much it the vac pipe. As you new description is very much same as my fault was. Also the new set I bought from honda did not work, I had to strip the old and fit the new parts inside.

after though was the vacuum pipe wet at the end?/ had fuel travelled down it?? if so then diaphram is split.

Got it started today but every now and again it just stops, the rev counter "possibly" dropped very fast, it was hard to tell because it was only doing low revs at the time..
What would this mean?

Vacuum pipe fitted, it started and ran for a good 5 maybe 10 mins, then just stopped.
Took some starting, but finally got it going again, ran again for a while but kept cutting out,
Then ran for 20/30 mins till fully hot no cutting out.
So I thought i'd go for a test run, got out onto my drive and it cut out and wouldn't start again... :bang:
So now i'm confused... is it the diaphagm or is it an intermittent electrical fault:xms0s:

This might be a daft suggestion but , a few years ago I had similar symptoms on one of my bikes (can't remember which ) and it turned out the breather in the filler cap was blocked. Don't know if the 'bird has one in the cap or whether it is separate , but its just a thought . :dunno:

get that tanks off and make up a temp tank using what ever you have like a funnel

and run the bike up that way first and see if it will run ok run it for as long as you can to test it

as im still thinking this is all to do with fuel as you say its starts ok with easy start and when it see fuel

@tu*

and id still change that diaphragm as by the sounds of it you have never changed it so there is no telling how old it is

Daft question like, but the vacuum pipe is on the right nozzle isn't it?

that's not daft at all that's so easy done
