Everybody knows a Blackbird will do 175+ mph, but I would be interested to know just how many of you owners ever get near that?

Lets assume that you were on a German autobahn at the time...

Personally, I believe that a lot of owners never get anywhere near these kind of speeds, and they like to own a 'bird just because its just about the best bike ever, not because they want to ride at 175mph...

Me first...when I was in Germany last...got the bike up to about 145 - 150, but nerves and then traffic got the better of me. Don't know about you lot, but it all gets a bit blurry at that speed, and don't feel quite in control...(I know, call me a sissy, I can take it..... at least I don't ride a Harley...)

First to admit to hitting the rev limiter in 6th gets a beer on me!!:yo:

best I've ever seen on the digital speedo (not in the Uk occifer) was 171 twas a tad windy at that and I wasnt' crouching right down behaind the screen, just sitting normally.

It would have added some more but that was enough for me!

I've seen 138 on the speedo going down the M606. I hadn't had the bike long and I forgot about the digital speedo and I was looking at the rev counter thinking "Bloody hell, 70 MPH is fast on this thing"! It was only when I remembered the digital bit that I realised my true speed and slowed down a bit. Oops...

An indicated 228kmh (142mph) east of Chemnitz last July. It's only two lanes wide there and the odd car and curve got in the way .... had a large topbox and soft panniers on  hence the caution but it felt stable enough. Made it up to that after gradual increases but I was in Poland before I could improve on that, and thought I'd better let me mate catch up on his Harley. Return trip across Deutschland blighted by Dutch caravans and rainstorms, had also done a few too many miles already that day to be arsing about with speed records.

Previous personal best was indicated 140 on my 600 Bandit (can't say where though), what scared the sh1t out of me was not seeing the Hayabusa piling past in the same lane just as I was slowing back towards more normal speeds till it was past. :tosser:

Presumably that was the M606 in Germany, Mortis... I've heard it's a good road.

My mate who I bought mine off swears that he's had her over 180 on the autobahn.

Personally I've only had her up to about 130 but it was more fear of being stopped by the polizei that stayed my wrist than the speed. It is very easy to get to those sorts of speeds as it's as stable as... well, a very fast barge!..

Keep meaning to go to Germany...er again. Ahem!

Had my Ace up to 165mph at the Ring and occasionaly hit 140-150 in the UK...on closed roads of course. Straight line speed doesnt really do anything for me...

Off to Germany next week...

Well - the pink bird has showed 150 :neenaw: !! but the road really wasn't as straight as it looked   and I had to quit before I needed to go home for a change!! Must find a straighter road!! :yo: :yo:

Oh - someone did tell me they'd taken mine to 170, but that was before it was pink (and of course slow!!)

On the 600 Bandit I managed a reading of 135mph & it felt like there may be a little bit more.

On the Bird I have taken her to a reading of 142mph on the M1

Can't say where... but guilty of 165 with the missis on the back... apart from her head nearly falling off she said she enjoyed it. Solo 175, not hitting the rev-limiter.h1d1ng2

On a slow Red EFI..... that'll do me.
Had to do it as the car has been to 160... So it proves my bike is faster.

was the speedo that far out then Derek, or was it a 1200 Bandit in disguise :dunno: c7u8

On the Assen trip a couple of years ago, we were chasing the famous black ferrari in Holland.the poor old Firestorm saw an indicated 160mph and i was trying to keep up with R1 Shaun's and Graham on his Bird as they hunted the car up to approx 180 mph..............

The bandit is a very underrated bike, don't know how far out the speedo is on them probably same as most bikes, the 1200 bandit I borrowed when mine was in for it's first service was also a lot of fun to ride & provided a big grin factor so much so that I decided to travel from Bradford to Wakefield via Dewsbury & Huddersfield

I was clocked on police bike held unit at 143 just after I had the owd girl.
The speedo was showing 150, but it was all a bit blurred to be honest.

No I didnt get done, but thats another story.

Never had chance to go over that speed, but I don't think it would bother me in the right conditions.

2 weekends ago I watched a woman do 181.2mph on her (unfaired) bandit turbo. It's the one featured in this months Streetfighters. Must have been a real struggle to hold on into that wind :D

My personal best is 215.7mph. I'm hoping to better that this year.

Incidentally, if any of you are interested in doing some top-speed weekends, we hold 3 of them a year over at www.200mph.net . Got one this coming weekend in fact, at RAF Woodbridge in Suffolk. Entries are closing today but anyone can come and spectate for a ?5 entry.

I had a new 1200 Bandit in 2000 The only mod was a Swona carbon end can.

I ran it in as per the book and at the turn of 1000 miles, found a straight stretch of Ahem, private road and 165mph on the clock.

The 1200 bandit is bloody quick and using the same reference points on a local road was quicker to 120 than my Bird,

Fastest on the bird was an indicated 175 in fifth(an out of road before I could get into top) with a topbox on!!

But then again it was a slow red one.
