Ok maybe "argument" was the wrong word to use but discussion didn't fit either, you can have the poorly made point free of charge
As for the rest of your post I certainly do know my own mind and prevaricating gets you nowhere so i am sure i would do exactly as stated to the best of my ability although i am sure others less strong willed would take a different and perhaps more sensible path
At the end of the day you do what's best for your family, but that also includes having a country to go back to......which obviously won't defend itself.you know me so well
Absolute honesty it is exactly what I would do eg try to get the family safe then go back, as old and knackered as I am I have never run from a fight in my life and don't intend to start anytime soon
I genuinely believe defending my country come what may would be the right thing to do and put in the situation of those left in the Ukraine i couldn't live with myself if I didn't try
As for the andyBeaker / ogr1 argument i see both sides to that story ... the old boy seems to be doing the best for his remaining family as he should but also as someone with medial training he would certainly be needed back in the ukraine and we dont know if his intention is to return once the family is safe?

Russian forces made a significant effort to capture it. For what purpose.? Not to keep the Ukrainians from making use of it as an improvised weapon, because it would hurt them far more and the prevailing winds mean that the radiation cloud would head west.
No, I have a horrible feeling that Putin has similar ideas as Saddam Hussein when he destroyed the oil wells and oil refineries as his army retreated .... create an environmental disaster to hurt the west while blaming Ukraine... e. g. Ukrainian artillery fire hits Chernobyl while "heroic" Russian soldiers were "defending" it.
I wouldn't put it past him.
