...When will they ever learn...?

When will HRC Learn??

The Honda company has long been hailed as the best manufacturer of motorcycles ? whether of on-road, off-road or racing designation. Surprisingly, while the overall quality and innovation inherent in Honda machines continue to evolve, man-management skills within HRC don?t seem to have developed at the same rate.

When Valentino Rossi ended his liaison with HRC, he wasn?t slow to criticise the ?robotic? attitude of his former employers towards their factory riders. HRC?s insistence that ?the machine is more important that the rider? not only soured the Rossi relationship, but it also forced Honda into a ?who knows best? battle with a former employee who dared to defect to Honda?s greatest rival, Yamaha.

Now, for the second year in succession, HRC?s attempt to bully Rossi (and Yamaha) into submission by flooding the MotoGP grid with RCV?s has ended in total humiliation, and one might have expected a Honda re-think, in terms of managing its relationships with its employees. DOH! Did I say ?re-think?? For two years, now, the RCV development programme has been in disarray and now nobody seems able to realise the full, on-track capability of the machine.

Melandri teases us with glimpses of his true potential, while Hayden?s youth and spectacular riding style make him stand out from the crowd. Biaggi can?t ride the RCV ? and looks as if Gibernau has spat his dummy out, saying he won?t ride the RCV. Bayliss never even got started ? and it looks like Barros is finished. These are the some of the best riders in the world, yet none of them have achieved any enduring consistency on a bike that was considered unbeatable when Rossi was the pilot.

Heard the latest? Honda tried to force Chris Vermeulen into another year in WSB ? now he?s gone to Suzuki!

When will they ever learn?

Hiya Eric.

A lot of what you say is true athough I do think CV might have shot himself in the foot by going to Suzuki and the reason I say this is because the top 2 bikes are Honda/Yamaha or Yamaha/ Honda 3rd is Ducati and 4th is Suzuki.
I've based this on results for this year.
If CV goes to WSB for one more year he is almost guaranteed a works ride on a bike that has the capability to win a championship, if he goes to Suzuki just to be in GP's then that's all right for the first year but the second year he would be on a Honda works bike that will stand a better chance in the long run. In the second year he will be on a Suzuki which I don't think will be good enough to win a championship.
I am a great fan of Chris but I think its a wrong move myself so lets hope he proves me wrong.
The man that has really impressed me is T Elias  and if he can get a full works ride as he deserves he will have a good as chance as any of them.
PS Well done to Melandri another star as well.

w;;v Paul,

Don?t forget, also, that a new generation of 800cc machines will be introduced neat season. None of the main protagonists have revealed how well their development programmes are progressing but, unless Suzuki has done an awful lot of work on the quiet, I don?t see how they can match the sheer spending power of Honda, or the genius of Rossi combined with the innovative and fast-learning Yamaha designers and technicians. :-:

...Well-lll...He's young - and impatient to prove himself at the highest level - who could blame him for taking the first opportunity to move up to the Premier Class? :dunno: And don't forget, Honda don't want to lose him - it ain't over till the ink's dry, mate...

What a brilliant ride he had today! Yamaha must be delighted that they?ve got him signed-up in their satellite Fortuna team ? wonder what he?ll be riding next year ? maybe as a factory team-leader (with Colin Edwards as his number 2)?!

The boy done good on a new track that had the Yamaha team struggling to find a decent setup (again!). I reckon Rossi will bounce back at Valencia though! :yo:
