What to do when you go away

Been offered a 4 week holiday in a few months time. The downside is that the bird will be in a garage that has no electric in. No one local I could trust to take it out of the garage an start it and run it for a while, no facilities for a battery trickle charger etc so should there be any issue in leaving one for 4 weeks?

It's a carbie with no alarm.

shouldn't really be an issue although you could just disconnect the battery to be sure

Just make sure its fully charged before you go, no alarm so it shouldn't drain.

My carbie fired up second press of the button today & that's after well over 3 months outside with the alarm on, I cant see a 4 weeks being a problem unless there is an underlying already existing problem

The holiday is in Kinlet, Shropshire, JB.

Oh I don't know, there are many things to do in Kinlet like counting the many damaging pot holes or dodging the myopic motorists that insist on driving over the white lines on bends or the suicidal pedestrians who are too lazy to walk a further ten foot to use the crossing.

Take the battery off, or invest in one of those solar chargers on the bay of thieves, cheap enough and you can dangle it out of a window so the sun gets to it!! "the solar panel" not the bike!!

If this is any help my bike had sat outside untouched under a cover since well before xmas, all that was needed was a charge of the battery & she fired up third press of the button & settled down to a nice even tickover within a couple of minutes even on the old fuel @tu*

Having said that I'm not sure one of those new fangled fool infected things would be so forgiving :whi5tl: F1sh1ing :-0)

Solar chargers and trickle chargers are the same thing and WILL fuck up your battery eventually. :-0)

Put bike in garage. Close door. Come back in four weeks and start it up.

Personally I think you are trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist. Most alarms go into a sleep mode, make sure you know how to wake it up - from memory on all my bikes the easiest way was to turn the ignition on to set the alarm off. Or you can read the instructions and do it the proper way with the fob:-0)

I was going to just do what you said Andy in park it,leave it but it's always good to know what others do in case something new comes up.

Here we go again!! :dunno: how about this scenario, My works yard is 2 miles away from my home, and I use my diesel Fiesta to get to and from, (you can fuck off riding a push bike at 3 am in all weathers at my age) before any smart arse suggests it, so with the lack of use "4 miles a day" and being dark the "new" battery never gets the chance to charge, so every couple of days the thing is flat, hence a solar charger left on during the day to keep it topped up!! :dunno: seem reasonable?? what would YOU do ??h1d1ng2

Two miles walking each way is some way short of the ideal distance walked each day in the absence of any other regular exercise..............

I completely agree. It WILL fuck up your car battery too though. But only doing 4 miles a day will fuck it up anyway. By your own admission you know fuck all about electrickery so please stop advising bikers to fuck up their batteries! 8rfl@

Funny story about batteries.

Being a young 11 year old desperate to learn from my dad on cars, he showed me the usual things to check. Tyres, fluids, lights and battery levels. He pointed out that the battery levels were at their lowest. Showed me what to do and then said hold on a minute, don't do anything as I need to go to the loo.

11 back when I was a kid, was still a kid but I didn't listen. I got carried away a bit and over filled one or two cells. Thinking I could correct this before he came back I found a straw.

At 11 I found out how fillings react with acid and how tooth enamel doesn't like it either
