I notice that the mags are chucking out their "views" on winter gear again. Who, on this site, wears what, and is it effective? Most importantly, if you had to replace it, would you buy it again?

I use

Joe Rocket Revolution jacket, never leaked a drop, even through 3 French thunderstorms. (Its a well known fact that French rain is wetter than good ol' Blighty rain)
Akito leather jeans with a ?9.99 pair of PVC throwovers
Gaerne ST Aquatech. Dont think they leak, but toes get damp in wet or dry, so think its sweat.
Joe Rocket Blizzard gloves. Not leaked so far and warm enough for about 100 miles of January weather.

eddie yates mate
buffalo jacket, akito leather trolleys with waterproofs on top, sidi vertebrae not proven in heavy rain yet, ixs waterproof gloves, all as dry as a nuns mooey

For me...............

Belstaff Merlin jacket, had it now for several years, no leaks, also use Dereks Belstaff Katsai, also no leaks.

Pair of belstaff leather trousers, with Regatta waterproof/windproof/breathable trousers.

Daytona Goretex boots.

Sadly need another pair of gloves as they are leaking.

Anyone any experience with Alpinestars gloves?? Been thinking of these ones as they fit...........well, like a glove

In my experience

the rain on the A34 anywhere between here and Southampton docks is considerably wetter than any thunderstorm I have ever come across in France. (one I remember particularly, lasted all the way from Newbury to Orleans!) :bang:

Akito leathers with 3 years worth of Renapur, topped off with Belstaff one-piece waterproofs. Cheapo Akito boots (must get some new ones!) with NATO waterproof bootliners. (Toasty but breatable) Triumph glubs with Sympatec & Kevlar - well worth the original ?80 as still waterproof (well they were in August, haven't got v wet since) as when they were purchased.

I went mad in Hein Gericke.

Got the basic Taureg jacket and troos, ?90 for the coat and ?60 for the trousers, not leaked one drop. Have a pair of Sidi couriers that have been absolutly brill and a pair of the taureg gortex gloves, (Best ?40 I ever spent!).

SPADA Jacket and SIDI Bib and brace quilted type trousers, both have proved fully waterproof, and warm, still only wearing a T shirt under the jacket.

Only down side is the trousers dont have any protection in, would it be best to wear leather tousers underneath rather than jeans??

Boots I have are Alpinstars SMX-3, goretex lined, seem to be waterproof and warm, and comfy as hell from day one.

Gloves are SPADA again (Winter) cost about ?25, and also warm and waterproof, but poss a little too thick for my liking.

Hein Gericke 'VOYAGER' jacket & trousers (bib'n'brace type), not leaked yet apart from the lower 2 pockets, the uppers are waterproof for phone/wallet etc..
Toasty warm 'YOU BET YOUR ASS'....they have armour too.

Boots, OXTAR TCS waterproof, so i'm told... not leaked yet.

Gloves, HG racing summer gloves, get piss wet through but my Honda heated grips make them steam, poached hands cooked from the inside out. :yo:

Letch
Belstaff roadranger ( I think) jacket.. Brill and as dry as a dry thing .
Fieldsheer 'highlander' storm trousers, LEAK at the groin ( no... honest its not from the inside). second pair, and still the same, wont be getting any more.
Sidi boots.
My gloves are rubbish. on the look out for a good pair of waterproof ones.

Spada Jacket - never leaked and too warm sometimes, never sure whether to leave the lining in or out, Richa Slider-tex trousers with the quilted lining - really warm and comfortable - only complaint being that the bottoms are not wide enough to allow my boots to go underneath. Hein Gericke Goretex winter gloves - absolutely brilliant - took me ages to choose 'cos I don't like bulky gloves and would prefer to ride in my summer ones but I get really cold 8ree! but not anymore and just in case I've got some silk undergloves. Oh and a fleecy snood to keep the draught out.

Richa Monsoon pants North Wales piss down tested kept me dry apart from the damp running down from my previous shite jacket which I replaced with a Richa Typhoon Jacket - not fully NWPD tested yet but it has kept me dry in light rain.

BMW Gore Tex boots - totally dry and comfy although I find I get cold feet. Its not the boots which are at fault I just have tepid tootsies. I would like to invest in some heated socks but I think that at ?60 they are a bit on the expensive side.

I tend to use my Triumph fabric gloves which are reasonably waterproof and very light. I dont really care cos I switch on the heated grips and enjoy medium rare fingers. I also carry a set of the Hein Gericke Pathan 2 finger gloves which are completely waterproof but a little too warm if used with the heated grips.

TIP

I'v got a little thing tucked away for the cold, slippery wet winters days, it's called

A CAR , "suprised no one has tried this cheap way of getting from A-B in the dry & keeping warm at the same time" :dunno: and I dont have to get dressed up like Michelin Man to use it man8um

I dont have to prove ow't nowdays, I had to ride em all year round at one time, now it's just for nothing but pleasure, if being wet, cold, & vulnerable is your type of fun "I take my hat off to ur" or you have no choice.
