Vehicle Number Plates

I've noticed recently that there are hardly any vehicles displaying the new UK plates.

I have the old euro GB plates (as did my previous vehicles) as they were already on the car.

But I've noticed that new cars appearing seem to mostly have plain plates.

Before it seemed that everyone went for the EU plates.

My car was delivered from new with the EU plates and over time a couple of defects appeared which made them an MOT failure.

I was asked if I wanted to stick with the EU plate or go to a plain plate. No brainer, plain plate every time as I hated advertising that corrupt shit shower in Brussels.

I'm not sure that was a conscious choice on behalf of motorists, as the plates were stuck on by the dealer. We have five vehicles in the house and all came with standard dealer plates minus silly EU badges (which I disliked). My bikes have slightly smaller plates and I have Welsh flags on those.

I was just curious as it seemed previously the default dealer plate were Euro type yet now they don't default to the new style UK plate.

Maybe times are hard and the pennies count! :)

When we were members of the EU it was one of their directives that all vehicles registered after a certain date (the date which I cannot remember) had to carry the EU flag along with certain other details in order to be legal and compliant.

When we left the EU this directive was one of the first that was binned, but some plate makers still offer the option, usually because it is part of their old stock and they want to shift it.

Most new cars now come with plain plates or the carry the English, Scottish or Welsh flags, and of course the new regs also allow for the use of 3 D plates which came in about 18 - 24 months ago.
