Interesting V&M 1200 blackbird Anniversary

noobie

Clueless in most things
These get mentioned from time to time.

I get confused on this bit, I believed they were part of Honda's 50th year building motorcycles anniversary and so 50 were going to be built but that number ended up around only 25 ??

Anyway, last time I saw one come up for sale was at Bonhams auctions in 2012 and was listed as a guide price of £4,000-4,500 https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/19768/lot/231/?category=list

There is a shop in Sheffield selling very well looked after bikes but they also ask very high prices.

They claim to have number one and are selling it at £11,980

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-CB...904507?hash=item2f1f60dc7b:g:xgAAAOSwFT9bYtlQ

Something I did notice..the plaque on their bike number 1 looks like a gel type of plaque but the bike at Bonhams , number 16, seems to be a metal plaque? probably nothing

Hi,
Lovely Bike, fantastic livery and worth the money IMHO!
Dare I say that most people in this parish discuss bar risers and comfort seats more than V M hooligan bikes,
Classic racer for the future?Or Sunday Toy methinks!

I see the bell-end that listed the ad has given the colour as beige. Nob.

maybe that was the original colour before V&M got their hands on it?

Assuming it is a 'genuine' v&m bike.

12 Large for a limited edition tuned Bird !!! To most people it will just be a red Blackbird.
12 Grand gets you into CBX 6 cylinder terittory a Classic bike known to everyone...
Dont get me wrong I am fully up to speed on the V&M Story, got a roadtest of one cut out
and also a sales brochure ..I even came close to buying one a few years back.
Would I pay 12 Grand for one??? No...This one will no doubt end up as yet
another garage queen instead of being ridden and enjoyed.

I BELIEVE number one is elsewhere....
There are so many fake ones around you have to be incredibly careful... And they were fitted with short skirt slipper pistons which do not fair well over time/high mileage
They were a carb version converted to ram air for extra top end boost.. a massive amount of work was involved getting the carbs to work properly.. In fact it may be the the constant vacuum ones were dumped in favour of a set of flat slides .. I have no idea

The decals do not look quite right , neither does the front mudguard ( though I cold well be waffling out my bum )

The V&M plate should NOT be thick, they were I believe quite thin with a plastic 'bubble' coating
Cannot see if it has the Penske shock or not

Here is one going through Bohams auctions

For anyone intersted it is expected to make about £6k inc fees and commissions

See it here : https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/19768/lot/231/?category=list

Having looked at images of the two side by side, I agree, the graphics look a little off on the £11k+ bike. looking at the CBR on the lower fairing, the bolt goes through the graphic on Bird #1 while it's just above on Bird#16.

The white part on the tail piece, when compared to the vent (hole) is differently placed on each bike as is the graphic on the nose cone. Small differences but they're still differences.

Would two original V&M Birds be slightly different in terms of graphics? Don't know, but I'd expect them to be the same.

Would have been tempted with Bird #16 if the auction hadn't been in 2012.

I would think Bohams would be the better bet if anyone was interested due to them researching
the bikes and History before putting them up auctions as they did with my Fathers old
Vincent (original owner) race bike.

Just seem the date 20/12 that Lee337 pointed out :eusa_doh:

There are differences that make it known there are differences which would certainly need a lot of questions aimed at the ebay one

was there ever a log somewhere of the V&M chassis numbers?
