I'm running Bridgestone 020's, good mileage and plenty of feedback.
It's a bit trial and error, you wont know what suite's you untill you try them.
not much help really was it :dunno: but what's good for one isnt gonna be good for someone else

tried both, not sure I like either that much, but haven't decided/don't know what to try next.

One I wouldn't ever use again is Continentals. Reasonable wear but not brilliant stick to road, and the front one blistered!!!!!!

:dunno:

Avons ST's for me .. after years of being a BT man I tried a pair of Avons.. aint looked back since !

If you DO go for Avons be aware that you must get the Bird specific ones.. They have a big B on the sidewall.. At least four times now folk have come to me complaining about their Avons and every time I have found they have the wrong ones fitted !!
I get massive miles from mine, do track days and regular continental trips involving autobahns and they do not square off until the very last knockings :p

Metzeler Sportecs for me! I have tried BT57,010/020, Pirelli, and Avon,

Stick like glue in the dry and wet and makes the steering precise. :lick:

But..... I only get 3000miles out of them, but there are fantastic miles!

So I might put Z6's on next

Does this help you?

Let the arguments begin.

ditto jaws. avon azaros for me to. might be worth doing a search, because this has come up loads, and there have been several "in depth" discussions on the topic b0x2 d04l1ng bl4hbl4h .

don't base your opinion of avon azaros on the old design though - cos they were %$fan

The Roads are poor tires for the XX. The bike came new with Macadam 90X's (and those were even worse). I ditched the 90X's after 8100 miles because the front had cupped so badly that they howled, and the rear never would grip to save its ass. Sucky tires. I figured the Roads had decent reviews, so I tried them next.

Initially very good, these things went away after less than 2500 miles of regular use (commuting, with the occasional blast through the canyons in the area). The front wore VERY poorly - the harder center rubber didn't cup much and seemed to wear okay, but the softer shoulder material was destroyed very quickly. This left a strange profile on the tire that made the bike wobble badly in corners and feel loose the rest of the time. I ditched them at about 3500 miles. (I'll admit that the rear was pretty good up to that point). The XX is too hard on fronts for these things.

Go with Pilot Powers if you want to stay with Michelin. They are everything I hoped for, and after 5000 miles I'm very pleased. I'll put on another set in about 500-1000 miles. They wore decently for being on a heavy bike, stayed grippy forever, and have always yielded great feel in all types of riding that I do.

But please don't waste your money on Roads for your XX.

I recently put a new 020 on the front now the backs squarerd off after some two up touring (I'm only getting 2-2.5K a tyre). I was thinking of changing to the Avons how do they react when combined ?

Or is it worth replacing both?:dunno:

Azaro's rock:yo:

Although I did have a major off after 5-700 miles, had nothing to do with the tyres.

Feedback and grip were excellent,
I tend to believe the hype re-mega mileage.

Recommended, Although you will have to make up your own mind in the end.

Could well come down to personal preferance/riding style....

Just make sure, whatever make you go for, you gat a 'Bird specific rated tyre

Neil.

So what happened to those all singing, all dancing Vipers?? I remember these provoked a massive response last year, (or have i been away that long they've been superceeded by something new?), or even better i've asked a really dumb question!!!!!!!!! (Which is more likely):xm

MAN on the PAN
Acording to Avon vipers 5% stickier but softer compound wears them out quicker
So you pays ya money and takes ya choice
