Welcome to the diesel world John. I went to Didcot yesterday in my TDi 130 Passat. Just over the limit on the motorway  and 52 mpg. It even does 35mpg local driving.

But what I want to know is why is diesel more expensive than petrol when it's cheaper to produce?

Steve, its because so many cars these days are oilers that the government wants to slap us :bang:

I'm hoping that the new beast is gonna be giving me high 50's on a run and 40's running around town.
Its still tight with only 7k on the clock, we have one at work with 260k on it.

Nope ...its particulates

The Government were trying to push us all down the diesel route by "low prices " to conserve energy then t'scientists discovered that diesels were spraying out particulates which are more injurious to health than the emissions from petrol. So instead of admitting they had it wrong they increased the price of diesel above petrol to encourage peeps to stay with or change to petrol! That's my understanding anyway! c7u8

And here's me thinking that because more people were switching to diesel the Government were getting worried that they would be losing out on Tax so they upped the price of diesel so they could rake more from it.
surely I'm not becoming cynical.

I collected my new motor today and i must say i am EXTREMELY impressed with it :yo:

Did 115 mile round trip to Matlock and the fuel comp was telling me 52mpg which for such a large car is mighty impressive when you also consider the terrain.
I have never owned such a quiet car, very torquey and the handling is pin sharp.. Well i have sacrificed the New bike for this and so far i'm very glad i did.

Rhino - top choice of wheels mate....I have a 53 plate zetec S 130 TDCi 6 speeder estate...racking up the miles, never does less than 43 mpg average, has a boot bigger than a big thing and handles better than the majority of cages...especially on 18 inch rims...

Not one reliability issue, cheap insurance and comfy oevr huge miles....

Nice one...

My car has cruise control which is pretty much useless in this country unless you want to stick to 50mph on the inside lane of the motorway! :bang:

On the otherhand my car guzzles petrol faster than an alchy knocks back a can of Special Brew!

Joe,
You said ya didn't want something too common, well done mate :yo: .

You wouldn't think the 'Mondeo' was a diesel either with 240lbs ft torque and near 130mph top end its quite a motor.
Went out last night and was hitting 66mpg on the M56, so far i'm stunned at its performance in economy and grunt.
I can't ever see me going back to petrol again unless its a bike, won't be long now though before diesel bikes are common place.

I disagree. It helps me keep to 30 and 40s.
My cruise control switches between conventional cruise (which I rarely use) to a speed limiter which is useful in built up areas.

2.5L straight six petrol, 23mpg about town 30 motorway.brok3

Does sound pretty feckin good though especially bouncing off the rev limiter in every gear and being driven like its nicked.

glad you brought the black one cause that red is sooo far up the gay tunnel that teeth are in view.

question for you joe, did they damage it driving up the steps???

anyway our 406 will kick all your cars arses cause we have a light up gear stick so there!!!

ps van goes about 20-24mpg, at 65mph loaded!!! with the aerothingies of a brick, and the wife can cook me dinner while i am driving so dont talk to me about benefits of your cages.
