Today 10:23 AM andy gough
hi all first visit, and problem, took my bird out on Saturday and after pulling off the motorway up the slip road the bike was stuck in 4th or 5th gear ? clutch works fine and had to push her to a safe spot and wait for the nice man from the AA to take me home, the bike has a very good service history and the right amount of oil in the box [that was my first check] does anyone have any suggestions that will not ruin my sunday ? thanks in advance Andy

Welcome Andy. This is the best section to get advice without initial pisstaking.
I have no doubt some answers will be forthcoming soon. A bit more information, bike year, mileage and whether the gear lever moves or is rigid would help.

Cheers pal , bike is 1997 with 33000 miles on it, lever will move between 4 and 5 at a guess, but nothing else, tried all the basics, rocking back and fourth etc regards Andy.

Either a bent selector fork or possibly just a selector drum actuator done something odd !
Whip the clutch cover off and see if you can see anything obvious @tu*

Welcome aboard.
I had a VF750 jam in 3rd gear couldn't shift up or down. I dreaded what it could be. Turned out to be a broken ?1-56 spring on the selector arm, meaning it couldn't engage with the shifter cam. Don't know if the Bird is of a similar design :dunno:
