The scariest thing that has ever happened to me

Coming home Friday night, outside lane A2 just past M25, going at an 'appropriate speed for the conditions officer', large sheet of polythene billows up about a 100 yards in front of me and hangs suspended two feet in the air over the outside lane like a curtain.

Surreal to say the least, particularly with the middle lane not an option due to traffic.

Needless to say, being an amazing rider who looks way down the road to avoid danger, I avoided what could have been a disasterous incident. There is a lot to be said for acvoiding 'target fixation'!!

And, needless to say, the car driver behind me ploughed straight into it, fortunately without any serious consequence!!

I will never, ever listen to anyone that says linked brakes on a Bird are no good.

And I will never, ever fell more like cr*pping myself on a bike!! This is the first and hopefully only time I have been so scared that I stopped to have a few deep breaths before resuming my journey!!

Grouse attack

Glad to hear that you managed to avoid the plastic sheet.

I had a grouse leap out of a hedgrow and bounce off the top of my crash helmet last year.

I saw it come out of the hedge, hover for a split second about 10 feet in front of my face and look at me. Time seemed to slow and I swear that I saw it say "Bollo**s" at the same time as I did. Needless to say the grouse came off worst.

That was a 'Pull in and gather my thoughts moment'. A couple of inches lower and it would have hit the visor.

Funny that, I distinctly remember saying 'b*ll*cks' between the time I could feel the front sliding and me hitting the deck when I had a very slow speed tumble on ice a couple of years ago on a Fazer. Funny how time seems to stand still when you know it's all going horribly wrong!

Plastic....easy peasy!

I had a metal filing cabinet fall off a lorry in front of me in the inside lane. Fortunately I was far enough back to nail it into the empty outside lane. My discussion with the lorry driver was choice....and yes my ass was doing halfcrown/sixpence......10p/1p to our younger viewers!

Not bike related but.......... I was driving a wagon a few years back and a big piece of limestone came off the quarry wagon in front of me, hit the deck, bounced back up, defied gravity for a second or 2 and hit my windscreen smack in the middle - screen crazed and I had to stop using the nearside mirror only. Me and my mate crapped ourselves! I had to punch a hole in the screen to drive the couple of miles back to the yard. It wasn't raining either!
