switched live required

Is there an easy place to take a switched live 12v feed? I'm going to change my 4kam from battery to bike-battery powered but I'd rather have a switched-live supply.
I searched, but many of the results included dead links from *some* years ago.

You could take it from the "pilot light" as yours is an older bike with switched lights.

Fuse box? I took mine off the mains fuse only live after ignition on.

Depends what its for.. low amperage stuff, the easiest points are the feeds to the brake light switches

Just a solid-state video recorder and a bullet cam. It's all fed under the seat.

If its already under the seat, pull up the fuse box and join to one of em under there..

This one John?

Which wires would be switch with ignition? I'm guessing tail light or horn but there's 5 wires on the back of the block for 6 fuses?

I have a multimeter but didn't fancy chopping into random wires to find one.

Top 4 fuses take your pick, they all only live after power on with key. I took mine off the black white wire.

My power leads were fine enough to wind around the leg of the fuse itself for now, to save me splicing wires in a hurry. I picked the horn fuse. It's running a 4kam dv4 and a single camera just fine. :yo: I stuck a new 32GB SD card in too so it's recording on a very long loop at 720x576.

Come on you Hatters
Pug, if you pop over onto the Pan or 6ers site and find Fink, he does a really tidy harness that plugs into the rear brake switch plug and provides 2 or 4 easy connectors that are switched. They're very well thought of by most members on those sites.
Saves cutting into any wiring anywhere.

Thank you! Do you know if the voltage is very stable from there? The feed I've taken was unstable with engine speed so I had to revert to a battery pack today. The 5v adapter I use to the DVR is fine so I either need a more stable 12v or a regulator for the camera.

Email him, bikesparksathotmaildotcodotuk, his names Murray.
He's done quite a few and seems to get good feedback on the other forums.

If you are using just 5v then even a cheapo type 12v to USB unit or indeed any other type of 5v controller should not be affected by any input voltage variations providing the input voltage stays above 7.2 volts..
So unless something really odd is happening it will make no difference PW

If you are using something that specifically states 12v ( so not made for use in connection with any vehicle because all vehicle related kit is has its own built in regulator ) then the easy and cheap solution is to buy and mount an LM7812 ( http://www.hobbytronics.co.uk/voltage-regulator-l7812 ) and use that off of any feed point.
The input voltage can be anywhere from 12v to 35v and the output will remain constant..
It is easy to use.. Pin 1 goes to any feed, pin 2 to earth and pin three to your output.. They can handle an amp with ease

Although all circuits will show capacitors added on your application whilst being nice, would not really be essential mate

Whole deal, less than 50p

Thanks Jaws. The 5v feed is for a 46kam DV4 and works fine. It's their own Bike Power Kit that includes the pickup leads, splitter into 4 outlets and the 5v adapter.
The 12v needed is for the 4kam bullet camera. 46kam also sell the 12v regulator but it's another ?20 and is probably that IC with convenient plugs.

I have a 12v regulator that I used to use with my set up on the track bike. It's not required now.

As for harness I can make you one if you like as have supplied several blackbird owners on here.

Let me know if your interested

Thank Murray. You should have an email from me from yesterday, assuming you're the one BMWdumptruck gave the email address for? If you have a regulator and can beat ?20 for it I'm interested too!
