Apparently, Mr Honda decided that the "average European", weighs in at around 13? stone (or 85Kg in foreign money).

No wonder a lot of the guys on here are having "issues" with suspension !
Feck, I need to put on another 1/2 stone, problem is my leathers fit better at 12 1/4 so I need to loose a tad. Then back off the spring preload to compensate. No wonder I find the standard tyre pressures too hard.

foot pegs etc

sorry for coming in on your post cannot find how to put new post on this pageF1sh1ing
blackbird is better with two people on then one.is it better to put the 5mm spacer on the rear shock, will this make it more comfortable for one person.
are the vario foot rests with the adjustable foot pegs in the m&p mag anygood? and will it be ok to adjuste down 50mm or is this too much?
also handlbars ,what is going to be the best way to and easy way to lift handbars?
is the new blackbird going to be any more comfortable for tall ridres as the seat is 50mm lower?.
has any one upgraded there horn?

Like most on here (!!) the bird and indeed any half decent road bike has more performance than can be fully utilised short of being a certain Mr V rossi. But i would say that every time JAWS has sellotaped a refurbed shock and both times he has bungeed 'upgraded'' front springs on my Birds there has been a helluva difference. Particularly front end where the tyre gives a decent impression of really digging into the tarmac rather than rolling across it when cornering. Even when squared off like mine normally are.

I would guess that the standard stuff is shagged after no more than 15000 miles of average use by an average rider. Like me.

so really any replacement with half decent kit is going to show a marked improvement after a while, even if you replace stock with new stock stuff.

Ohlins rear shock with an extra 7mm ride hight plus re-valved and re-sprung front end.

and yes it does make things a lot better. Does it change the basic character and handling characteristics of the bike - no, but it does make a good bike better.

As AndyBird said - most people can't access the performance of their bike so spending more money on more performance is a little fool hardy and making the bike/rider able to manage the power that is has already is money far better spent. And in MHO has the following benefits:
  • Suspension set up for you and the bike will reduce weare on tyres (and therefore pay for the investment on suspension upgrade)
  • Always provides the maximum/better contact with the road in all conditions. this therefore makes it a little safer as suspension enables the tyres to work at their optimum
  • Confidence - riding a bike is all about confidence and if you are riding a well set-up bike that is not bucking and weaving or trying to kick you out of the saddle every time you go over a bump will help you relax and enjoy things a lot more.

As with everything its all down to personal opinion and I think setting up suspension is one of the most important and valuable things you can do on a bike - money well spent!

Wolfie

Is a lunp
1. suspension
2. brakes
3. performance

1 and 2 are must dos in my eyes and by brakes i mean get them working right and keep an eye on the pads/fluid etc. 3 not needed on most bikes.
