Straight bar picture thread

Here are a bunch of pictures that I took as I fitted my bars, hopefully with the "how to" you get with Johns bar set things will be a little clearer, unfortunately I cant find all of them including the one's where I measured and drilled the holes for the locating lugs on the switch gear, If I find them I'll put them on here,:dunno:

Check the gap between screen and tank,

The different angle of the original bars with Jaws risers on.

compared to a standard "slow" black bird :whi5tl: the difference is about obvious!! :-0)

In picture one there seems to be a lot of fork showing. Did you drop the front?

No that was taken just as I removed Jaws bar risers and they are the extensions, sorry it does look confusing, when I took the extensions off and re fitted the original tops, the bars are exactly the correct hight as on the "Black" standard model on the left of mine, they don't need dropping through the forks at all, though it is possible if you need a few more mm, don't forget to replace the retaining spring washer, @tu*

Looks like the type of screen will make a big differance to the clearance on full lock?

Possibly some can though I've fitted the straight bars to standard screened bikes as well as after market and with a bit of fiddling they have all fitted, albeit with minimum clearance, but no touching of the tank or screen, I always try and have someone else there to do the holding the weight, as I adjust the bolts it just makes things easier all round.:dunno:

Bar Clearance

Regarding screen/tank clearance, I have the str bars fitted with an MRA touring screen , carb-type cables and I've even got 12 mm spacers under the conversion brackets, and there is still clearance. I didn't need to shorten the bars, either. BTW, nice to meet you at Wells last week, Robbo, but you could have warned me about that dog shit !!!! 8rfl@

:dunno: If I'd known you wanted it, I'd have had more people walk around it!! instead of like you, through it 8rfl@

PS. no one's going to believe that!! "nice to meet you at Wells last week, Robbo"

Instructions come via email.
I had a bit of a do fitting mine, by not reading the destructions.
Mainly I didn't check lock to lock with tank fitted. Doh.
Took me a full day actually.
Now I have a problem with the heated grips controller.
I can only mount it on the brace bar, which is way too thin.
Not enough room on the main bars.

I have been known to use some hose pipe, cut wide enough to reach from one side of the controller to tother, an inch or so!! cut it lengthwise and wrap that around the much thinner brace, I've even used two pieces to make it thicker under the bracket, it does fit with enough screwing down of the fixing bracket, OR you might make a bracket up that uses the brake fluid bolts to fasten it on to, that way you could experiment with position!! I'm sure someone that has made a bracket will post a picture up!! "hint hint"!! :whi5tl:

Going to buy and fit some straight bars in the next few weeks, I was wondering about the actual bars and wondering if there are different types that can be fitted? i.e different bend? Different length?

I have an early conversion I got from john (jaws) & with the bars fitted how I wanted them I had to trim the little curve off the bottom or it would just touch the switchgear, both the stock screen & the double bubble I have now were the same, I am not sure if the later versions would actually touch though

with these bars is it harder to see in the mirrors, i notice you have mirror extensions fitted, do you need them.

No harder than with the stock bars for me, I'm slim as the name suggests so it may be different for the more portly gentleman :-0)

I do have to move a little more than I would like for a full view behind just as with the stock bars so mirror extensions are on the to do list although not essential

As Slim says they aren't essential, "Mirror extenders" but as I am a bit vertically challenged and almost as wide, I found them very handy, with elbow armour fitted, it really helps me keep an eye on all the slow moving black bikes, that tend to be behind me most of the time!! :-0)
