bill's correct about the A74, but the plus lately is the road from dumfries to cairnryan which is far better than it ever was due to an upgrade! then the crossing to larne is only 60 mins on the fast ferry. i'v never had a prob with the ferry staff when i'v gone by bike either.Centaur said:I go over every couple of months on my bike. You have to make your northings anyway and the roads are better on this side. I normally use Irish Ferries as they are very biker friendly and they land in Dublin rather than Dun Loaghaire sp so it cuts out a lot of riding through the city. If you decide to go all the way up to Cairnryan or Stranraer (think Stranraer is not used now) then for Gods sake watch your speed on the A74. Coppers are like ticks on a badgers back. If you do go Dublin talk to me and I'll tell you the easy way to get from the port to the N1

Wow - only about 20 miles difference between the Welsh direction and the Scottish - total of course!!! - and larne is only 9 miles from where I'll be staying :yo: :yo: . I was certain that Scotland would make it too far!!FreeBird said:Hi Smix,
I'm from N'Ireland and I live in Lancashire, I always use Stena Stranraer - Belfast it's a long way on this side but its by far the easyist unless you are wanting to tour Ireland. The NW200 in May is a much bigger event than the Ulster GP
What ever you do I'm sure you will really enjoy your time there :yo:

scruffygit said:Any idea where the coppers hang out? I do the run to Cairnryan regularly (Stranraer serves Belfast) and tend to 'make progress', if you know what I mean (Gretna to Cairnryan usually takes about 90 mins on the Bird, if I'm not late for the ferry). I haven't seen one copper on that road in the last two years.
Smix, if you do take the Scottish route, give the A6 from lancaster up to Carlisle a try - its another cracking run - rather than the M6.
