Hi

I am collecting my NEW shiny bird tomorrow. I exchaned the one I was having running issues with as advised. I have not had a new bike since '97 so any pointers on running it in properly. Some say that it is no longer required due to the accuracy of the modern manufacturing machine's. Other advise is slow and gentle.

I got my new one last Sept. Keep it legal and that will probably be too slow. Am sure I only revved it to about 4-5 thou for first 500 miles and let rip after that R#?

I heard the the problem with modern engines is getting the piston rings seated properly, and you dont have much time to do it in, maybe as little as 50 miles from new.
I read this since I got mine in 2002, so I cant say I told you so.

But it goes a bit like this, drive carfully for the first 5 minutes to get engine up to normal temp and head for the open road, then drive the engine fast maybe in 3rd or 4th, throttle off and let the bike slow down on engine breaking to get pressure behind the rings, do this about 10 times.

When you get home, change the oil, drive normally from then.

I'd like to see John and other peoples comments

Bloke who does tractor engines, thinks that after an engine rebuild, put a big plough on back of tractor and go up hill.

Learning here is dont pussy it

I think I am with Dave on this one..
After that initial period I would continue not to labour the poor thing for the first 500 miles, then slowly build it up over the next 50 miles or so..
