Road works

Is it me ,or are we drowning in a sea of roadworks at the moment..Every journey that I undertake ,you can guarantee that I will encounter at least 3 or 4 sets of the things...its not even to improve the roads..its cables or pipes being replaced or hedges being cut.pavements being dug up ..but they still have to shut half of the carriageway for health and safety reasons..And even better most of the obstacles aren't even manned...just traffic lights causing tailback with no one working for weeks at a time...
It took me 40 minutes to get home on tuesday ..it usually takes 12 to 15 tops....this is in the car obviously..
There must be something that we the silent majority can do about this surely.

Seems to be a sign of the times, same down here and with the annual influx of grockles higher than usual is even worse than normal, being local and knowing all the little lanes etc is an advantage but still a pain as more likely to get stuck behind a Devonshire Rolls Royce, IE farming implement .

On my regular friday night jaunt 2 weeks ago there was 1 set of road works, last friday there was 11  same route same time but 11 sets of roadworks in 15 miles all placed on major roads seemingly to cause the most disruption is taking the piss imo, you would think someone with half a brain could work out how to time them to minimize disruption wouldn't you ?

lets see what happens tomorrow night anyone want to lay bets on the number this time

Went through some road works yesterday (after a good 10 minutes of waiting for them to change the lights to green) and had to follow a convoy vehicle travelling at 10mph.. took fekin ages to get through :BangHead:

In Dublin they proposed making a main circulation route along the seafront one way. It is one of the main routes to a river crossing.

The residents in the housing were on the roads protesting because it will drive the traffic through the housing. The road has nothing on the sea side at all.

Bastard cyclists. It's about time these twats were made to pay tax and insurance.

If there's any more of a bias towards these idiots, I can see individuals with an 'interesting' sense of humour using their cars or motorcycles to play skittles.

And that, sir, is exactly why cycle lanes are a good idea.

Plus most efficient form of transport known to man, zero carbon fuels, zero emissions and the bell makes a lovely noise.

Yarp...but where are the cyclists?
Not in the cycle lanes. Most seem to think the pavement is their right to use above pedestrians. Not helped by these pavements that are dual usage. Once they get used to sharing a pavement like that, they then assume that every pavement is fair game.

Well, it keeps them off the road, which is good. However, with some roads being narrow enough as it is and parking half on the pavements becoming increasingly more prohibited, I'm beginning to wonder where these cycle lanes are going to be created.

No, skateboards are more efficient because they have four wheels in contact with the ground :p

Twice in the same day I barely missed being injured by cyclists on the footpath as I stepped out of a shop.
One was a 14 year old the other was a 60 year old with a trailer.

A man in Dublin had an "event" with a cyclist on the footpath. He got prosecuted and fined. No prosecution for cyclist
