I managed to fit the radiator to my bike today but it was not straightforward, the left hand top mount was not in the right place, to get over this I had to cut the captive nut of the removable left hand top mounting bracket and fit the radiator with the rubber mount on the inside, and use a nut on the end of the mount screw. Then the left hand hoses would fit and the oil cooler mounting points lined up (just !)
But then the fan was being pushed up against the engine and slightly caught the radiator when it was switched on, so I then had to space the bottom stay out a fraction by using a longer bolt and some spacing washers between the bracket and the engine. Everything is now in place, but I don't know how the fairing will fit around it yet ...

Keep going, it's still sounding like a viable option even with the mis aligned bits!!@tu*

Yes it should be well worth it, it's not that much of a problem for me as I am used to such things and have all the equipment and experience to cope with it, but for someone expecting a straightforward replacement it could be disappointing...

hi have been watching this thread with interest, as i also have been having cooling problems on my bike ( xxy 2000 bird) found this site in the states www.partzilla.com doing genuine honda radiators for my bike less than half the price david silvers want £700 + P&P even with import duty taken into account, don't know if this is of any help to anyone thinking of changing their rads and want to use genuine parts

I have now ordered a rad and costs so far are £274 just awaiting delivery and to see what import duty is. Having looked at customs web site it should be 4.5% duty +vat but partzilla say that import taxes are calculated in their bill but will wait and see if i get charged, will post outcome and final costs

You might get away with not paying any duty, it depends on how it is sent and packed, my father bought a screen for his ST1300 from the states and it was held in the UK until he paid the duty, I can't remember how much it was but I'm sure it was more than 4%.

It seems like a great price for a genuine Honda radiator though and look forward to seeing how you get on ..

Looks like you got a good deal there..
I have got my Radiator fitted, but haven't put any coolant in it yet, I am planning to use the special Evans coolant, but haven't bought it or the flushing solution yet ...

Well have finally got around to fitting the radiator, took approx 2 hrs to fit cleaning as i disassembed, decided to use engine ice coolant to try to stop it running hot this summer (hoping for a hot one?). Took it for a 150 mile run today no problems seems to be running cooler but it was bloody cold today to say 100% cured, will keep posted as the miles rack up

You say your not sure if it's 100% cured, I may have missed your post where you told us what the problem was!! :dunno: if it was leaking I would have thought the ride today would have confirmed it was now sound, or if "running very hot" they all do to a greater degree!!:dunno: apparently it's the nature of the bike!! would this be the original problem??

radiator

no the problem was it was getting very hot last summer to the extent that it sounded like a kettle boiling when i turned the engine off, i used to have to leave the ignition on to let the fan cut in to cool it down, had new thermostat and rad cap fitted with no effect, cleaning out rad fins cured it for a while, pointing to poor cooling at radiator, hence the change.
just glad i managed to get radiator cheap from states ?700 + from David silvers is a bit steep, has cost me ?330 for rad plus ?36 for engine ice coolant. As i said need some hot weather to test properly.I'm hoping its going to change in time for the BMAD show in Paington at may bank holiday, so i can give it a good run.

I've been fitting some gear from Partzilla this weekend. Radiator, oil cooler, fan motor, "o" rings and new radiator cap, all delivered with all taxes for quite a bit less than a radiator alone from David Silver. All the same part numbers so very confident and it worked out well.

They come across as a very trustworthy company.

I've ordered $800.00 from Partzilla. I've never found another oem mc parts for less. I've checked many. Free shipping after $200 or so. I ship to Wash St address, no duty or tax.
I would get rad guards, Jaws sell them.
