A defender passes the ball back to his goalkeeper, as he passes an attacker chases the ball so the goalkeeper dives & gathers the ball in the penalty area.
What is the outcome?

I know a loaded question when I see one! :sisi1

There are a number of possible outcomes from ‘nothing’ to dismissal for the goalkeeper and other sanctions.

There are a number of outcomes however none involve dismissal of the keeper, possible yellow card but nothing more.

In my simple understanding a keeper cannot immediately handle a deliberate passback, they have to first make contact with the ball with another part of the body which would not be regarded as "handling" the ball.

If the ball was going in the goalkeeper could be dismissed for ‘denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity’.

You are welcome..

Ah, that was an outcome I overlooked, for the sake of sanity it is not going anywhere near the goal, it is direct to the keeper.

Still potentially a dismissal for denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity if the referee deems that the opponent would have got to the ball before the goalkeeper and most likely gone on to score.

Ok let’s assume that the striker was nowhere near the ball when the goalie picked it up.

Based on the limited information offered an indirect free kick to the opposition at the place where the offence occurred (unless in the goal area).

The offence I am 99.999999888% sure attracts a caution (not ‘yellow card’!) but I can’t be bothered checking BUT , as ever, it is not mandatory.

I just know you are now going to say ‘but I was walking my ferret this morning and saw an incident in an under eights game when the referee did (whatever) they are all bent’….
