Gotta a brand new autocom with bluetooth dongle and a brand new tom tom rider 2 unfortunately I can't get them to pair..I've spoken to autocom who told me to reset the factory settings on the TT2 ..did that and the screen came back up in Finnish!!!..had to log on through my computer to get the thing back into English..I think it may also have wiped the safety camera settings but only time will tell...dongle appears to be working as I have paired it with a mobile phone..TT" also recognises dongle but won't complete the pairing process...welcome anyone else's experiences and potential solution...autocom say they don't recommend pairing with the tom tom..now they tell me:bang:

New info

Spoken at length to Autocom and had online communication with Tom Tom..all bad news...if Autocom are to be believed then it would appear Tom Tom have made software changes which don't allow the device to be paired with other bluetooth headsets ...Autocom say they have had a few customers who have bought rider 2s experiencing similar problems.

My advice if you have bought a rider 2 and are considering using itw ith autocom is don't hit the factory reset button..this only applies if you have already paired your device with the cardo headset..even then you risk buggering up your device..Tom Tom software is fragile.

By hitting the reset button my device doesn't respond to speed cameras (more on this in a minute) and the facility to operate the device online has been lost.

On the positive side the device in terms of audio instructions for navigation through the Cardo head set works well..had a quick test ride yesterday ..with speeds moderately above the nsl. It is easy to fit even to my Shoei which has side skirts...

Big downside is there is no socket to wire it to an autocom..its bluetooth or nothing...I understand garmin Zumo (which I was going to buy but changed my mind at the last minute) has both facilities.

I bought the TT2 from satnaveasy..the guy there says that a change is being made to all sat navs where you only get a warning of speed cameras if you are actually exceeding the speed limit and this could be why my camara warnings didn't show.....blood pressure rising by the minute....

Gawd.. I hate moments like this.. But look back on tom tom posts.. Those with them always say they are wonderful and no probs, those who have had to test them against other units are errrr... well, not so keen.
It is exactly the sort of problem you have experienced that makes the t t option not quite as attractive as it should be :)-(

I have a TomTom rider 2 and I am more than happy with it. I have had no problems at all. But i do not have a Autocom so don't have that problem. I have no experiance with the Garmin so can not compare either, but i have used other makes in the cage and nothing comes close to the tom tom for acuracy, the timing for the speed camera's is adjustable which I could not do on the other make i have used. I do have problems with the connection to the mobile when I tried it, but to be honest I don't want that facility anyway, too much distraction. I have also found a great program/website (called TYRE) which is setup perfectly for the Tomtom, not sure if it works with any other. The program allows you to use google maps to set/plan a route anywhere in the world. Then upload to your Tomtom. Great for when your touring. I have already planned my route up to scotland, can't wait to do it know. The website is http://www.janboersma.nl/gett/help/

I have included the files for my planned trip to scotland for anyone who's interested in looking. Thats if its worked. You will need to install TYRE for them to view on.

If tom tom are that accurate how come folk who are looking for me end up at the wrong end of the road trying to find a way into a field !! ( And I have heard all the sheep jokes LOL !! )

I have yet to find your place so can not commemt, but i will bear this in mind if i do, i'm sure ALL sat navs are not 100% but compared to the others i have used the Tomtom is the best. I did look at the Zumin when I bought mine but was told the speed camera warnings only worked if you had a planned route set. I could not however find out if this was true as i did not know anybody who had one. Please confirm this is true or not if you know the answer.:dunno:

Hi John..thanks for this...I don't think any are perfect and I have read the previous posts and was going to go for Garmin which seem to come out on top but I use a tom tom Go 720 in the cage and it seemed logical to stick with TT for the bike duh! wrong again....since my last post I have managed to make an online connection through the Rider to Tom Tom...previously tried through my lap top which also has my account for the 720 and it wouldn't talk to the Rider...loaded the software for TT Home onto my PC at work and created a new account...Rider now updated including a new map set for Western Europe -took 2 hours to download....hopefully all should be in working order again...taking the Bird to Spain in May with a pal hence investment in autocom and TT...now looks like I will have to double up on the hemet with cardo and autocom so that i can use the bike to bike..flippin heck..whatever happened to maps and hand signals...time for a lie down

Set my TT Rider up with the dongle last year ok but after pulling the bike apart and back together over the winter.

continued updates for the car.

plus a new phone.

I have reinstalled everything with the same problem by the sound of it?

I have sent an email to Chainspeed last but I havn't had a reply back.
Sent another email Thursday, again not a thing so I am now getting a bit pissed off!

It will instantly pair with my phone but it wont with the TT Rider now.

Great to see a leap backwards in technology!!!!!!!

If you hear any good news on this? Would you PM me please

will do but I'm resigned to doubling up on headsets..to be honest I don't envisage using the sat nav that often..I can understand your frustration ..have to say i'm pretty pissed off with tom tom, satnaveasy and autocom who have a good rep but gave me bum info and are very defensive about their product......

I suspect the reason people find tomtom's so inaccurate is because they charge for updated maps!
Since I bought a new one for my girlfriend the recent bypasses and roundabouts are all correct. One from 3 years ago was awful.
It still doesn't have all cameras in the database though, and does have the wrong speed limit on a few road sections.
You can download the route planning stuff direct from tomtom for the PC I think? That can pre-plan a route for upload into the device. (I could be entirely wrong about this)

I use Tomtom regularly in both the car and on the bike, a 720 and a Rider1, and considering the distances covered I'm very happy with them, even though there are occasional glitches.

In regard to the map updates - I'm informed by Tomtom that there are updated maps available but I'll probably live with the ones I have for the moment cos I've got better things to do with the dosh. I also understand that Garmin charge for their updates, perhaps someone could confirm this?

Perhaps a touch of reality here - try comparing the age of the satnav maps with that of the paper maps that probably lurk, like mine, in the boot of your car.. mine are circa 2001 and cost me ?2.99 from a petrol station, so waaaay out of date.

All that being said, I've just paid out on a (yet to be fitted) Autocom and gonna be well p*ssed if I can't get them to connect!

I found a company on Ebay selling Tomtom rider and will sort the problems associated with not connecting with Autocom products.

This kinda leads me to believe it can be done?

Think they are keeping this to themselves

I spent yesterday evening looking at the Garmin but even it doesn't shine so brightly tbh

Does anyone know of an email address that a human being at Tomtom might just answer?

I read that Microsoft are in the throws of sueing Tomtom for copyright infringements that have been going on for over a year and is now getting to the point of nasty now?man8um

The company that sold me my TT2 gave me this number to ring for Tom Tom customer support 0845 1610009 ..haven't tried it yet ...interested to hear if they offer any solutions...if its anything like their online service they won't have a clue what an Autocom is...

Hi Folks
Just fixed my TOMTOM rider 1 problem with it not connecting to the autocom dongle.
It would not connect through the bluetooth devices option. It would seem it replaces the standard headset option. The only way to get to change this was to reset to factory setting (and say no to finnish language when it runs through the setup)c7u8

When it searches for a headset (set your autocom headset to discoverable, flashing quickly) and say yes to search for headset it will find and use the autocom.

Hope this helps someone, would have thought the folks at autocom would know this.......:bang:
