Ah, now I understand it Lumpy- you are talking bollocks (being as he is one of the older members, and hence of a higher quality I can say that to him without fear of upset. Possibly).

Lumpy, I can't explain - you wrote it!

You said "motorcycling and biking is being diluted by the popularity of it unfortunately." (my highlighting)

Therefore I was asking YOU why you feel motorcycling and biking are two different things.

It's an old school thing it's not actually biking or motorcycling it's more biker's verses motorcyclist's back in the day being a biker meant wearing a leather and a cut off, living, breathing bikes, not conforming to society, getting pissed on a Friday night, riding to the Forest of Dean on the saturday smacking a rival bike gang member upside the head with a length of 2 by 4 then riding home in time for tea and a top end rebuild...Whilst being a motorcyclist meant promoting bike's "you meet the nicest people on a honda" kind of thing. That's the difference, for some it's a way of life for the others well their just pretending...

A lot of forums have an 'Introductions' board, maybe something like that labelled New members or summat, ease them in slowly.

I worked in the motor trade for years so it takes a lot to offend me but we all have 'off' days when we take things more seriously than we should.

I think biking in genral has moved on like everything else, there is a more diverse group of people riding bikes now and you can either embrace that, as most of them do love bikes, or you can sit in a cave and hit yerself on the head with a club.

I ride a bike for more than one reason, I don't go to meets but I wouldn't rule it out. I joined this forum to get lots of info on my Blackbird and chat to other people who like this particular bike. I would say this reason for joining is true for 99% of the people who join so they should be recognised for at least having some taste. :yo:

Let them start to join in a bit rather than trying to stamp on their necks the moment they join
When I first joined in I got a great deal of abuse for having the temerity to voice an opinion and disagreeing with the illuminati.

This was at the same time that various of you were wondering why very few new faces were appearing. I commented as such at the time & received a few insults for it.

Well done Jaws for saying what I've often felt needed to be said.

Here are some general warning for newbies

- many of the members on the site are either mates, related or have met up on meets a few times so the banter is unreserved.
- everyone can have bad days.
- every group has their share of grumpy gits and windup merchants.
- 99% of flames aren't personal.
- the moderator suggests have a spine.
- the sweetie goddess will be along shortly.
- good advice is given in Help section.
- sarcasm is prevelant in Coffee Shop.

One suggestion, change 'Coffee Shop' to 'Pub Talk'

I think it's too many women on motorcycles that is killing it, they should all be made to ride naked for one month to prove they're serious. All those in favour???? 8rfl@

Maybe you should make a sticky for new members?

Warning about the rottweilers and telling them to expect the worst....anything else is a bonus ;)

If you're man enough to cut thru the crap (copyright MTK) then you can "usually" get what you want from the forum, IMHO

Is a lunp
There should be an unwritten law that oldies aren't picked on either I reckon, my ex is always having a go at me.

my point of view on bikers v motorcylists is well put on here somewhere, but to chuck in a diversion can you tell if they are one or the other without meeting them first???
