This has been going on for a while - the tax on my lpg Swedish barge suddenly shot up because it COULD run on petrol -it had about a ten liter petrol tank!! - it had previously been taxed on emissions while running on lpg (60 liter tank). Also the London Congestion Charge exemption was removed without notice for the same reason - which absolutely caned a lot of taxi drivers.

The fact that nobody in their right mind WOULD run it on petrol was deemed irrelevant.

UK government to introduce legislation that requires every person over the age of 16 and under the national retirement age to have an annual spirometer (measures lung capacity) test so that citizens can be accurately charged for the air they breath.

Govt. research suggests the average person breathes approximately 3.2 million litres of air per annum (not including abnormal breathing patterns such as when exercising).

Using these figures it is estimated that the tax receipts could be around £2.1 trillion per year.

A government spokesperson said ' while the average person is likely to pay less than £320 per year, athletes and physical performers would probably pay more. Those at the lower end of the scale, such as the average couch potato considerably less.'

It is thought that citizens who cannot pay on an annual basis will be able to pay monthly for a small administration charge and the small percentage who cannot pay will be surgically fitted with Pay As You Go oxygen providers.
