Newbie and my new bike

Hi guys. I’m new to B.I.R.D and Hondas in general. I’ve not had a bike for quite a few years. If I had to guess, I'd say about 9 years. I needed to get a bike again for commuting. Originally, I was looking at 600s and the like. I decided I wanted something faired. The search got expanded, and then these Super Blackbirds started showing up. I think they just look awesome. So added one to the list of possibilities. I saw this one pretty local, and after the test ride, I couldn’t say no. I’m not gonna lie. I didn’t go over half revs on the test ride. But damn, what a machine. Reading that the engine on this bike is pretty much bomb proof helped the decision too. I picked up my XX this morning and couldn’t be happier. I’m looking forward to the rides to work and rides for fun too.

Before I stopped riding, I’d had a Suzuki Marauder 125, then a 600 Bandit (which I thought was quick, not any more), finally a Yamaha XV1100.

I’m thinking of starting the advanced rider course. I figure it will get me back up to speed quicker, remind me of things I’ve forgotten, and hopefully next year’s insurance premium will get a nice reduction.

Anyway. I just wanted to say hi

Thanks guys.

ogr1, its an early model 2001 with cat.

andyBeaker I’ve seen an IAM group close by. I was going to try with them as the structure looks like it would fit me better.

I did RoSPA.
They also give grades, gold, silver, bronze.
I think IAM is pass/fail.
I get discount based on grade.
I think it was over 20% .

Welcome to the internet's only old folks home, Darren. Yes, it really does smell of wee and boiled cabbage in here.

And well done for becoming a sponsor of the site. Your membership gets you access to dozens of centuries of collective knowledge about the Bird.
And also the forum's legendary levels of piss taking.

Never post pictures that show your drive, house, garden, car or garage.... or be prepared for the kind of abuse that would make Gordon the Gopher weep.

And if Ogr1 offers to lend you his Jacket then start running.....

Nice!

As others have alluded to, you might struggle on here if you’re under 50 (years old or stone) but it’s fun anyway.

Some simple rules to keep in mind:

1. Accept the sweetie.
2. Whatever you do, don’t offer to buy or look at ogr1 ’s jacket.
3. No ailment, injury or disease is worse than a bad ankle.
4. Diesel is the fuel of the Gods.
5. This is a forum about golf, DIY and cars (especially German perfection i.e. Bee Emm Double-Yoo-Hoos).
