Ok bit of a new member intro....

New Bird owner (hopefully thats not an iffy term for one of these...?!) and so thought id better join the forum to learn a bit about these beasties.

Having been riding bikes for over 20yrs and having a few spills (few pins, screws & steel plates fitted etc!) I had a few years off. In that time I discovered that our lovely well run, totally competent dvla had deleted my bike entitlement .
A google search found that they deleted bike, truck, flt, and all kind of stuff from tens of thousands of people. Theres an online battle trying to fight it, but I doubt they will get far.

Off I went to do my cbt, THEORY TEST??? and then d.a.... AGAIN! All passed but cost a fair bit. Im not bitter about it honest (especially as I have done some advanced driving in a past career.... ahemmm).

I now own a modified 2013 CB1000r, but as much fun as that is, its a pig on the motorway. My mate told me to look at these. Needless to say, I found one that seems an absolute peach! Ive (hopefully) attached a couple of pics. Excuse the background. Ive just had to extend the garage to take another bike!)

My bike is a t.reg (carb) model with low mileage and the following "bits" done:

Vfr 800 clipons.
Nitron rear shock.
Adjustable k-tech front susp.
Datatag.
Scorpion cans (jetted to suit).
Delinked brakes & cylinders changed.
Braided hoses.
Pirelli Angel st wellies.
Sw motech rack.
Stainless headers off the fi model.
Loom fixed.
R&R swapped.
Centre stand removed.

My shopping list of mods was drawn up at Jaws the other day. Top top staff.
Nothing giddy, but I need lower pegs plus ive no idea why the levers are 85ft long on these! I break & clutch with 2 fingers so they gota go!!!

I also picked up a set of oem panniers the other week. Im visiting local fab shops in order to see if anyone can butcher an sw motech rack to take oem panniers. Unless any of you lovely folk have oem rack and are interested in a motech swap....? No....? Didnt think so!!!
Oh and I need a monolock rear rack as mine has a monokey, but my box is a monolock. Typical!!!

Anyway if anyone has any thoughts on things to look out for, check, swap out etc im all ears! The only thing I know about these bikes are they weigh more than the moon, go faster than a fast thing, and are butter smooth!

I used short ‘dog leg’ levers on my Fi and found them both effective and comfortable.

No photos……l  …..use the ‘attach files’ button at the bottom of your post.

Welcome.

Which SW Motech rack do you have? If it's the quick-lock system, I think I have a mono lock plate in my garage. I'll try to get a pic of it tomorrow.

Welcome to the asylum matey, and welcome to ownership of the gentleman’s express.
As long as you keep all the conversation restricted to BMWs (cars) golf, football diy and non motorbicycle topics, smell of stale cabbage and piss you should fit in well.
Oh yeh! There is a lot of knowledge on here about Birds mad parrots as well (y).

Well im nearly 50, got a modified car, 2 bikes, i play golf badly, Bolton fan & just built a garage. That ticks off the bulk of it.

My ex will testify I do in fact smell of cabbage & piss, but then again she smells like someone microwaved a used nappy and shes got a face like a fire damaged welly and a clout like a badly packed kebab so not sure her opinion counts no more!!! (Harsh but fair trust me).

Always up for learning stuff and ill be chipping in with bits when I can.

You probably need to sponsor the forum (£5, I think) to do that. You will also get access to all the help forums that are hidden to non sponsors and also get Beaker's dodgy d.i.y. 'skills' and Dirk Kelly trying to tell us that referee's are crap instead of Leeds United are crap. You will also enjoy Squag1's mind numbing Facebook reposts......

Enjoy!

Right, now you’re here, we can advise you what to buy next as soon as you get shot of the Bird.

You probably aren’t aware yet that you really, really need to buy a Dacia Dustcloth, some niblicks, wedges and splutters from Monsieur Beaker nearly in France, and turn your attention to Leeds FC and how VAR ruined their year. Then get a motorhome and sod off to Europe for a while.

And never, ever post pics of your house/garden/drive/garage /shed.... not unless you want it ripped apart by the collective.
