Just been reading an interesting military analysis of the Iran retaliation.

The suggestion is that Iran succeeded in its objectives and proved it can do so at any time.

It launched a first wave of slow drones which took hours to reach targets. Intercepting them used resources, as intended, yet telegraphed intentions.

These were followed by a wave of ballistic missiles. These were aimed mainly at the sparsley populated negev and most were intercepted, again soaking up resources.

The final wave of slightly more sophisticated ballistic ordinance was aimed at and successfully hit the Nevatim IAF base in the negev.

That was the base for the aircraft which carried out the raid on the Iranian consulate in Damascus.

So, Iran proved it has a method to occupy defenses and still hit the intended target.

Proportional response?

I think they were making a token response it could have been much worse just hope the Israeli government doesn't escalate things

I’m sure Israel will be working out how to respond and kick the crap out of Iran while at the same time trying to make it look like a controlled, measured response. They will want revenge because that’s the way they work.

Oh dear, poor us, Iran attacked us.
FFS, you bombed the embassy in another country - surprise:eek:

I read a while back that this is Israel's strategy, to create mayhem in the Middle East, preferably to get them fighting among themselves. Can't remember exact agenda.

We have them whining here too. Poor victims, it's not fair, everybody breaking international law. No mention of illegal settlements and murdering Palestinians and destroying their homes on a daily basis. Such hypocricy.

Alec, you keep forgetting that this started because Hamarse stormed into Israel, murdered, raped and/or kidnapped 1,400 people.

There‘s no doubt that Israel have blood on their hands but they didn’t start this. Now, is that hypocrisy on your part or selective memory?

Depends how you view it, but believe me I'm not trying to justify what happened.

I suspect Hamas might hold a view that they were responding to balance the number of hostages held.

In 2022 there were 4,500 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails. This included 160 children, 32 women and 1,000 "administrative detainees". This last group are those indefinitely held without trial.

Look again at the women and children number.... (unless each female prisoner has five kids that's a hell of a lot of children being held).

Even at it's worst in NI the standard response to kids throwing stones was not to automatically shoot them.

Since the Hamas attack over 13,000 children have been killed in Gaza.

The clock/justification didn't start because of recent events.

To my thinking the problem is that most parties in that region do not behave in a civilised manner and will not change.

Applying our standards of behaviour, judgement and fairness just doesn't work.

Started in 1948 and continued....

Much of initial reports debunked.

What changes?

And I'm still not convinced Nentanyahu wasn't some way involved in Hamas attack.
Does false flag ring a bell.
As I said, IDF knows absolutely every single thing that moves in Gaza, how were they surprised. I don't buy it.

They want the land. There's potential for a canal through Gaza, documented, and they want the resources.

Article in today's Times quotes Jewish people here don't support Netanyahu.
