My ipad is getting old & tired & keeps freezing or cutting me off the internet.
I've decided I'm going to get a new one but can't decide which to get, what's the benefits of an ipad pro over an ipad air?
I'm thinking 16gb might not be sufficient but a 32gb model is nearly ?100 dearer, is it worth paying the difference or should I splash out on a 100+ gb model?

Now you see the truth about Apple, Derek.

They charge you an extra £100 for an extra 16gb memory which really costs about £30 but you can't buy memory separate and upgrade like you can with any other manufacturer. How do they get away with it? Because there are loads of mugs out there seduced by the Apple brand. 8rfl@ Buy a good Samsung tablet much cheaper for the same spec and with the ability to upgrade.

Sorry Derek. I should have added and bankers with more money than they know what to do with. An EXTRA £150 for an outdated model, Andy says. Sheeeeesh! Bwahahahahahaha. One born every minute. lol

Personally I would see if you can find a new 'last generation' model if you are driven by price. Just bought one for my mum and the only real difference in the real world for the average user is the need to tap a 4 digit code in to unlock it instead of thumb print technology on the newer models. Which will be old hat soon when voice recognition is used..... can't be far away.

About ?150 less for the 'old' model, seems like a sensible way to go to me.

I've fallen out with Samsung after my galaxy apollo phone, both daughters have the S5 & neither are impressed with them, both are going back to iphone when their contracts are up, never had a virus or been hacked on an apple product but my Samsung was hacked twice, youngest daughter's S5 was hacked just before she went on holiday.
Just bought Bev an Acer Iconia & whilst it's ok for her I would soon lose patience & interest with it.

When i was deliberating over selling my soul to Apple someone who knows about these things said 'Apple products just work' which swung it for me.

I now have an ipad and two iphones the oldest of which is about 2 years old, all have worked perfectly since day 1.

Having said that, I am typing this on my 8 year old HP laptop that I still prefer to use when working from home8rfl@. That also works beautifully.

Don't be tempted if anyone suggests an iphone 6s as a usable alternative to an ipad - they are OK for surfing and basic email/phone stuff but drives you nuts if you want to do anything more - the keyboard is simply not big enough...........although the voice recognition stuff does work well when used instead of typing.

I trust you are now more confused than you were beforesh1tehppns

I'm happy with my iphone 5.

I may just go into PC world & have a play with what they've got then when I've decided buy from somewhere else, did think about an ipad mini but I like a larger screen.

This is the reason why many retailers go out of business. :bang:

Pc World are still in business despite over charging for products & then trying to sell you warranties which end up costing more than repairs would have cost, their repairs are sent away leaving you without your product for three months (Bev's laptop) also when I bought Bev's last laptop I had to take it to a local computer expert as everytime she went on the net she was inundated with adverts, according to computer guy this is common practice with pc world, they open it up to all sorts of crap expecting you to return it to them where they will clear it all for ?30.
Pc world are robbing twats who deserve to go out of business.

Mines doing exactly the same. So I'd be interested to see if anyone can come up with good reasons to go for the newer models over the older ones as Andy points out below.

I did just this when I got Jules one Xmas before last. Couldn't see any reason to buy the later model for what either of us use them for. Just wish I'd gone for the wifi version with a gif gaff card, would have been handy when away in the caravan.

Always fancied going over to an Applemac too, sick to death of all the spam and crap I get on my normal puter, and it's never been near pcworld.

Thought they all had wifi, there is a way of using your mobile phone as a wifi hotspot apparently.

It's very easy to tether your iPad to a smartphone. Just be aware that some mobile phone data tariffs do not allow you to do it. @tu*

Size matters ( as far as ram goes any way )
If you are 'in to' music, photographs or video get the largest capacity you can

Clueless in most things
Still apple but slightly different, an Itouch.

Mine is now 5 years old and was a 16gb at time of purchase. No pictures, documents or anything stored other than music which is about 82 albums. Although it claims to be a 16gb, it is actually 14.3gb after the bare bones for it to operate are put in place so with my music that leaves me 8.8gb spare.

Despite this huge spare capacity, the device often can crash on the internet particularly on picture heavy sites such as newspapers. I've noticed also that as the device/battery gets older, this is happening more than it used to.

I've always avoided tablets as I find when I use devices I want a proper keyboard for internet use and not a screen keyboard

Apple stuff can behave in odd ways. It's rumoured that some bits of equipment have a designed in obsolescence, and updating the OS is a backup method of making your device unusable.

Typically all manufacturers want you to go and buy the new shiny things. So they release a new bit of software that has some really useful features, but it can't run on your outdated hardware. So it's either live without the new features, or upgrade.

Apple add to this by having an end of life date on their equipment. Once you pass that date all support vanishes. PC's also try this trick, but with the hardware and software being from different manufactures it's not as hard a cut off date.

I've even got an Android tablet that is giving me grief, making me wish I'd never updated the OS on it.

Another reason your device can slow down over time is the actual memory chips have a read/write limitation. There is a controller chip that does it's best to share out the read/write cycles across the whole of your devices memory, it also takes note of bad memory areas and doesn't use them. As the device gets older the number of bad memory areas increases. With a new device a file would normally be stored in one continuous block, when read back it's nice and fast as it's just reading from start to finish. An old device with some bad memory areas will have fragmented files that are slower to read back as the controller is skipping all over the place to collect the fragments.

I think my Android tablet is suffering from this as even reverting the firmware, and performing a clean flash makes no difference. So even though nothing moves, it's just worn out.

Chris

PS Curry's are actually quite competitive on some prices.

You need to go to the play store using the play store app. You can download games or their android equivalent there. I believe there are also apps that can move your ishite photos on to your device. Failing that put them into some cross platform cloud storage such as Dropbox.
