I'm going blind on ebay, piston heads and Biketrader..

What do I need to look for when buying a Blackbird? Age seems to have no link to price either?

My main question is the miles..what is good, what is bad. There are loads of bikes out there with 30K+ that look very tidy. Are these worse than a bike with 15K?

I'v raised my budget to 3.5K now is desperation

I really am going nuts looking :bang:

Are you crazy

Look on bits for sale on here and snatch Riccardo's hand off. Look at the spec! Miles are really not important on a bbird....just the condition.

they pop up on here quite often. I've been a member for a few years now and members become well known, (meets etc), you soon get some idea as to when a good deal comes up or if a bikes history is well documented. Keep looking.

as for what when where and why, well, the faults are well documented, age won't really make any difference as they are more or less a bulletproof bike, one member here put 100k+ on a carb model.
The usual things apply for searching, does it look straight? does it all stack up paperwork wise? does it have some signs of thrashing / damage etc? = walk away.

The bird is a solid bike, owners tend to love them and they respond to treatment well. I would wager more than 50% of them are well loved and cherished bikes as they 'usually' attract the more serious / older rider. Avoid "specials" with weird paint jobs and unexplained trick bits. If a bike has special cans, does it come with the standard cans, if not, why not?

keep looking & keep posting

lastly, get a black one, they are faster (little known fact that)

Went for ?3100, give it a few more weeks and you'll get more and more bargains coming up!! @tu*

I missed it lol. I was watching that one, but it would have cost me ?200 to get it picked up and I would have been buying unseen.

I just had a chat with a dude very near me selling a 2004 in silver with 34k miles, looks very tidy. He will take ?3500, new tires/chain etc

Link to the add http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2004-04-Honda-Blackbird-CBR1100xx-4-34000-miles-/1705309760?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item27b4b966c40

good looking AND modest
whats 254 miles for a bike like that?? :dunno: I'd do that at the drop of a hat if I was in the market for a bird with those spec's!! get on a bus or hitch!! :dunno:

if your looking for one on your doorstep you may end up with a clunker, for the sake of a day's journey!! a no brainer IMO!!

I agree, but would you buy a bike unseen? It's a big leap of faith.

The add may have a load of folk with itchy bidding fingers though..I may take a punt at 1 min to go for £3500, either way with delivery it's gona cost me £3700 minimum..a deal if it's a good un :yo:

Sorry mate, as nice as I'm sure it is, it's not what I'm after. I just want a normal off the peg BB, not one that's on steroids. :-0)

It is indeed a good one. I have seen it on tour a few years back. Well looked after.
