As I mentioned last week, I have been off for the past 9 days with Covid. It hit me hard and left me completely drained, but slowly I have started to recover, my sense of taste is gradually returning although the persistent cough remains (which is normal apparently)

Anyway, I was due to go back to work tomorrow even though I still don't feel 100%, so just to be sure I did another Lateral Flow test. Guess what? Still testing positive as is SWMBO and tested positive and developed symptoms 24 hours after me.

I have advised work and awaiting a decision from them as to whether I go back or not, bearing in mind that we are carrying vulnerable people with reduced immune systems, so its a case of wait and see.

Still not 100% on my part, but its not about me, its about the people we carry. Just surprised that the 2 red lines showed quicker and brighter this morning than it did when I did my first test last week :(

Work has just advised me not to go back until I test negative which is understandable.

Seems though that there have been a few of us off as an email came through this morning cancelling a training day and staff meeting on Saturday because of the number of us who have succumbed to Covid so it seems that I am not the only one.

Makes sense in your case.

Our rules now are you should work unless you're actually unfit to do so.

Covid sickness is now treated as any other reason.
In the last 12mth period more than two periods of sickness (regardless of reason/length - this includes injury in the workplace!) or total sickness of more than eight days results in being placed on a "Personal Improvement Plan". Any further sickness while on the PIP results in a disciplinary hearing.

Pretty standard these days I’m afraid. Can’t remember the exact rules where I last worked but it didn’t take an awful lot to be in peril. Not that I can remember anything actually happening to anyone.

It seems ironic that we continued to work when the pandemic was at its height ensuring people got their shopping (we did it as a free service for those who were isolating and vulnerable), took people to their hospital and GP appointments and 99.9% of us avoided contracting the disease. But now it is (apparently) subsiding) we are dropping like flies.

From a job point of view, we are in a different position to most in that we are not reliant on our work to pay our bills as 90% of us are retired or semi retired (we only have one full time driver) and the rest are volunteers, so if they started the Personal Improvement plan malarkey most would just walk and drop the charity in the poo.

That said, for us, Covid is still regarded as a big deal for obvious reasons, so unlikely we will ever get to the point where they start that game.
