Battery seems to be ok?.I have tried to start the bike with jump leads from my car and it has the same fault. BTW I have ordered a new battery.

Turn key on-fuel pump can be heard normal.
The engine turns over very slowly. The engine turns over quicker and quicker if you keep the thumb on the starter switch until perhaps the bike starts. Even if it starts, if you switch the bike off and try to start it again, the same thing happens. If you ride the bike for an hour and switch off the engine, you do not know if it will start properly or you going to have the same problem. Sometimes you need a push as well.

Any ideas/suggestions? Any help will be appreciated, thanks.

could be a few things

1. starter motor ( probably brushes )
2. starter solenoid on way out
3. earth strap coming loose / corroded

Don't think battery is issue if another ( known to be good ) battery is performing the same

Thanks

To all that bothered to help.

The battery is replaced and the bike is working fine (ATM anyway).

Thanks again for all your help.

Glad you found the problem

I wonder why the jump from another battery didn't work.

I don't understand it too....It should have worked. I went out on it today, its holding charge nicely, it starts perfectly ok (like you would expect)...The old battery drops down to 12.35/36 volts where this new one is at about 12.90 volts.

Anyway thank you for suggesting different things but I think the simplest of them all, the battery, has solved the problem (I hope)

This is why I keep telling peeps to load check suspect batteries. A duff cell will often not show up off load. :-0)
