I am trying to but a portable ( not personal but portable ) 'boom box' that can play CD's ( other funnctions handy but not important )

It has to either be rechargeable or have a DC socket that I can use to run it ( DC voltage can be anything from 4.5v up to 15 v )

The only one I can find anywhere is a Lauson .. And it arrived faulty !!

As an alternative have you considered using your mobile with a Bluetooth speaker John? My cd collection is stored on an old laptop, really simple to transfer to the mobile.

Coincidentally I have been listening to a load of old cds today while varnishing twelve oak doors to relieve the boredom. Everything from ABC to All Saints to INXS to Slade to The Who to The Temptations to Glenn Miller and more.

I seem to have quite a wide taste in music!!

If you had mentioned it was for the (or any!) Ms I would not have bothered suggesting an alternative. I know how it works!!

Maybe could run a mains one off a small inverter ?

Could you not use a personal CD player (If they even make them anymore) and just use rechargeable batteries?? Then use speakers that will take an Aux input.

I've got a Walkman but it wouldn't drive speakers.

I've got a spare 400watt invertor.

Inverters are very inefficient..
Yes, we have 330aH worth of batteries and 300+ watts of solar power, but we will be off grid for 9 or 10 weeks from January so an inverter is not really on
We do have a small one fitted ( 600w pure sine wave ) but it only ever used in absolute emergencies ..So far in 8 year it has not been used at all LOL !!

How about a CAR Radio/CD player ? That would run off 12V, you would just need to box it in a bit to make it tidy....
