My last few bills have been only around ?8.00 of calls per qtr. with the line charges amounting to about ?30.00
Finances are a bit tight at the moment so we've been "economisering".

So thinks me, that's a bit daft the proportion of calls/rental don't make sense.

Rang up BT and asked if they had a low user scheme as I'd heard they did but coud find no info on it or how to request it anywhere on their web site or bills.

Nice lady at BT (in India) said: yes

Me: I'd like it please.

BT: OK, just a few questions first, do have a mobile 'phone.

Me: Yes, I have a work supplied phone, it's not actually mine.

BT: Oh, then you can't have the low user scheme. It's only for peeps with no mobile and no internet access.

Me: But isn't that a bit daft, the 'phones not actually mine and yes I do have internet but that has nothing to do with the calls - we just don't make many.

BT: Sorry, thats the rules, we can't help you.

I can see me now fidning everyway I can to reduce what BT get from me. Thing is apart from the qtrly charge it's not much!!!

I was quite happy years ago to stay on the qtrly line rental but wold they let me.... no you have to go to our new product, it's called BTtogether......

They once rang the missus and said they wanted to review the friends & family numbers as they thought they could improve the savings. Read a list of numbers out and suggested we change to those, missus agree.

Turned out the new numbers included the Yorkshire Tourist Board, Currys Complaints numbers...... you get the picture?

They didn't do anything other than look at the most recent numbers.... doh...

Ah... .feel better for that now, rant over.s04pb0x6 s04pb0x6

I'm sure someone will mention skype before long, you can make calls to landlines with that, Jaws rang me a while ago and I couldnt tell the difference (may have been his dodgy southern accent mind!).

I use a phone that automatically dials 18866 before every call so I dont have to remember to do it. 18866 charge 4p per call no matter how long you are on for, my bill is usually only a couple of quid a month (premium rate numbers like 0845 etc are not covered). Might be worth having a look into, I'm sure I could find the details on the phone if you wanted them.

Other than that, I think TalkTalk do a deal where you get free broadband and calls at the moment, but I cant remember the details, sorry.

Hope that helps a bit!

The talk talk deal is about ?20 a month for which you get your line (no payments to BT at all!) Broadband access and all your calls, including international.

Great, thinks I, until I remembered that in a recent economy drive I reduced my AOL broadband from platinum to gold to save ?10 a month, but had to agree to a new one-year contract!

I've recently signed up for talk-talk. It's ?20.99 a month including landline calls and up to 8meg broadband with a 40 gig monthly limit, but not the 0845, 0870 type numbers. Also most of Europe is included, but I'm not sure about USA, Australia, etc. It's going to save me 30 to 40 quid a quarter.
