If a child misses school the parents could be fined yet every election day some schools are closed as they are used as polling stations, this means that working parents have to either try to get time off work or pay a childminder, would it not be simpler to hold elections on a weekend or during the summer break?

Can't see why they have to use schools. When I was a kid, they were held in the church hall. (Father as a the local bobby was security )

Because Education is very important & every election day is an Education day lost.

I can never I understand why schools close for a day for teacher training why not train them one week after the school closes for their long summer holiday

My kids school has inset days/teacher training after school hours/early evening, so no missed days for education.
It is/has been (I've not checked recently) the top primary school in Cheshire East.
Can't be coincidence.
