I ride with a couple of 12 owners... Apart from the fact they are pretty easy to beat on our crap roads, tell him to dump the OEM Dunlop tyres... This is a known issue mate.
The OEM fitted tyres seem to have a bit ( ! ) of an issue with hard side walls.
Well documented on a few of the 12 forums, and all the riders who are a bit quick have gone for the Bridgestone options ..
One guy I know managed ( after returning the OEM Dunlops for 'testing' ) to get the cost of a pair of tyres ( real ones :} ) out of Dunlop !!
If he would like the email addy of one of the owners I know give him my email addy and I will put him in touch..

As Ben knows, I test rode a ZX12R

as I was thinking of swapping it for the BB. After a 4+ hour test ride it was evident that the 12 is quicker, especially above the ton and handles better than bird, but it's def more sports than sports tourer, so I'm keeping the BB 'till 2004 at least. We'll see what's around then, but if the new BB isn't up to it and they've ironed out all the 12's minor problems, it might juts have to be the 12

On smoothish roads the 12 will easily walk all over a Bird... I can never stay in the same league as a couple of the locals on nice roads ( there are some seriously SMOOOOOTH roads around Sandringham.. wonder why ? )..
But as soon as we get on to more normal roads thats the end of their fun and time for my revenge !

still, no departure from my daily routine and we'll get a test ride out of it. Actually, it'll be my second test ride on one of them, 'cos I took one out of SPC last summer for a few hours. I have to say that if the bike was my sole method of transport, day in - day out, irrespective of weather conditions and given my job, the GS would be first choice. Some say it's ugly, but it appeals to me and it's so comfortable and economical. Then you start looking at depreciation and running costs and you can see the reason why they're so popular. Ah well, better put my name on the waiting list for when I join the pipe and slipper brigade then :}
