Personally I have never bothered with a bike alarm, they can drain your battery, they can go wrong [specially near radio masts] and how many people notice when one is going off?

also find out from your insurance company how much of a discount it's gonna get you!! and how much the cost of the alarm is, then work it out yourself!! :dunno:
Derek does have a point ref the troubles involved!! h1d1ng2

When I first got the Bird I was told i needed an alarm - nearly ?300 to get one fitted, and the insurance co would only offer ?100 discount for having it!!!!!!!!! Found a different insurance company!!!!!!

Mine already had the alarm fitted when I bought it - Sola alarm.

When I asked the dealer if it was an alarm/immobiliser he advised it was just an alarm.

Couple of weeks ago I came out of work and forgot to switch the alarm off, put the key in the ignition, lights came on but no sound of fuel pump etc. Bike wouldn't start...... thought "os sod it" then remembered I hadn't switched the alarm off... did so and everything was as it should be !!

Anyway, I think it's a good alarm and Sola have been great with support. No details of it came with the bike, e-mailed them and got a quick reply and a set of instructions through the post a day later and promise of help if needed.

:yo:

Insurance discounts, waste of space. I've tried with the various on line quotes and experiminted with claiming al sorts of stuff fitted/used to see what difference it makes - ???? - buggar all I found !! Didn't matter what I claimed was fitted the online quote was always the same !!!

I personally wouldnt be without my alarm especially when travelling around a lot staying in hotels etc here and on the continent. Its nice to know if there is any unwanted interest in your bike. I agree that if your out of earshot of the alarm then its pretty pointless to a determined 'Tea Leaf' but when parked outside the house where you can hear it then it has to be worth the early warning.

On a night my two are in the conservatory, for anyone to get into my garage they would have to get through my 8' gates one of which is attached to the side of the house so we would hear if anyone tried opening it, then they would have to walk past the conservatory by which point the dogs would be going berserk and any would be bike thieves would probably have turned and run by now.
