If you have a voltmeter or test light try them in turn when you turn on the light and press the brake pedal. One will be live for position lamp, one live for brake light (don't use this coz it's switched) and one will be the common earth. BTW if you use power from the light circuit the accessory will only work when the lights are on. You would be better finding an ignition switched feed that doesn't have any other switch in the circuit IMHO.

Looking at the wiring diagram for 97/98 the wires are:

Green - common earth
Brown with white trace - sidelight/position light
GReen with white trace - brake switch to brake light.
Don't blame me if you blow the bike up following my advice though

I use the live feed to the rear brake light switch, tap into it where it passes under the relays etc just behind the battery.

It's only live with the ignition on regardless of what the lights are doing.

Can't remember what the colour is but it's one of the two going to the switch!!!

Think if you do a search you proly find a previous thread on this that does ID the right colour wire to tap.

Whilst I don't mean to appear unsympathetic, have you thought about about buying a Haynes manual, and finding out for yourself ?

Brake light switch feed would be more sensible. As someone points out later the manual is invaluable.

As much chance of that as having a forum without a pedant, someone who thinks they are funny or without a member of the spelling mafia though

Wiring from the rear

If you do take the feed from the rear light, it gives you the advantage of being able to turn the intercom off, when you do not wan't to hear any more lip from your passenger after an argument b0x2 . Or was that just me !

 Quality. However why would anyone want a pillion talking to them at all, the best thing about the bike is not being able to hear what she's saying for 150 miles at a time!
