I have no doubt it will be excellant training but shudder to think how much this is going to cost :dunno:
The course took me over 18 months to write and a further 12 months to get accreditation from City and Guilds, and with the help of Bob and the other 3 instructors on the course we have tried to illiminate many of the pitfalls and problems encountered by people on other courses.
I am not saying that it will be faultless, in fact as with any new course I expect there to be lessons to be learnt by us the instructional staff, but! We will learn by listening to constructive criticism and observations from the students who attend the course.
When I wrote and set up the RoSPA diploma course over 10 years ago, it took about 3 years before I was totally comfortable with the direction the course was taking, I expect a similar situation with the C & G course but as with anything worthwhile it is about evolution rather than revolution.
The aim is to make the course relative to real world riding with the core skills needed to enhance the riding and safety experience.
I have been working on the instructor/examiner course for about 9 months now, and again using the experiences gained by people like Bob who have been on the receiving end of my courses with national accrediation, it is about getting the balance right. So again although I have written (or am writing) the course, there will be tweaks so that it will be of benefit from the start and it will have realistic aspirations and targets for the students.
The DSA currently recognise the City and Guilds general teaching qualification and with this certificate even though ythe holder may have no advanced knowledge or experience what so ever, they will be allowed to go onto the advanced register under the grandfather rights scheme.
If they currently recognise a non specific C & G qualification, then they have to recognise this one, and we hope to have the accreditation for the instructor course formally notified to us within the next few weeks.
In respect of costs, I leave that to the guys at ISSEE, but I can say that it will undercut many of the mainstream competitors.
