Isn't that what we pay prison officers for?

It was when I joined the service bill, but nowadays we are requested/ordered

treat them with respect
call them by their first name or prefix their surname with Mr
Ask them to do something rather than order them to do something
We are not allowed to shout on the landings (I still do) we are expected to use the tannoy system

I heard the other day of two of our so called Officers who on conducting a Cell search found a container of hooch, when they quizzed the prisoner about it he ordered them out of his cell & they went, You wouldn't believe how desperate the situation is becoming it is only a matter of time before we have a serious incident at Wakefield. :bang:

Bring back hard labour, take out TVs and all the other luxuries. Make prisons so tough that they think more than twice before re-offending,

Oh, and let the police (and teachers, for that matter) give kids a thick ear. Maybe then they'll grow up like we did, with a healthy respect for authority.s04pb0x6

Oops, have I just given my age-group away?

Do something about it Derek.
You can make changes. Do not take no for an answer. Do not let your "superior", managers get away with it. Challenge everything.
You will be amazed at what you can achieve.
I have a history of being a challenger at work and if you are prepared to push and keep pushing you can change things.
One person can make a difference. Rules, regulations, policy can be changed.
Make a stand.
Try it.
"They can" bollock you Derek but it's only words. "They can threaten you with sanctions" but stand up to the bullies and they will back down. I have been right to the top of our company and had solicitors involved. Even though I am now first line management I am still a union member. I have brought them in. Sometimes they have been usless put if you keep putting up a strong arguement you will be successful.
They can't shoot you Derek.
Good luck
All meant with the best of intentions Derek.

The following is gonna piss some folk off. Truth tend to do that with some people.. Sorry about that..
If you are easily upset read no further..

Apart from the tyre being under inflated and the rear brake pads fooked, I would be happy to ride that bike.. sorry..

And the amount of Birds that come here for service with pads hanging out, tyres bald, axle nuts loose etc etc I certainly would think carefully before getting to excited.

Christ, he even had legal cans on !! How many of you lot have silly stickers or justy plain illigal race cans on ?

How many of you lot check your tyre pressures every ride. WITH A guage I mean, not a prod with a digit ! )

How many of you guys EVER check your pads between services ?
Judging by the amount that plot up here with feck all meat of the pads not that many !

How many of you have ONE drink ( a half of bitter or something ) and then ride ?

Do I need to go on ?

yet you wanna shoot the guy ?

Come on girls.. get fookin real will you !

And consider this..
It has been pointed out by those who are supposed to know, that organised crime would not have flourished the way it did in the 50's if it had not been for national service.

The army makes a man of you.. a hard man..

Shame society has no place for 'hard men' when the army is finished with them.. leaving very few options open aside from crime !

Not having seen the programme I can only base my opinion on what is posted. Whilst I don't check my tyre pressure before every ride I do check it quite regularly, I have seen bikes with tyres that are balder than I am

Bill, it wasn't a bite mate I was agreeing with you, bang the Criminals up & let the Prison Officers sort them out that is why I joined the service.

Roxxo, The decisions about running Prisons are made by people who have never worked in Prisons, & who have no idea what sort of people are locked up, Prison governers are on a bonus scheme whereby if they come up with an idea that saves money they get a bonus these ideas are usually at the expense of the base line Prison Officers at the moment Wakefield is being flooded with new inexperienced staff & somewherre along the line they are being told not to listen to advice from any long serving officers as most of them just want to be friends with the prisoners. I along with many of the older end of Staff at Wakefield refuse to call the Prisoners by their first names or prefix their surname with 'Mr' but unfortunately we are now in the minority.
we keep getting threatened with privatisation & the private sector are [allegedly] on 41% less wages than the public sector but as the old adage goes 'If you pay peanuts you get monkeys' but what they fail to recognise is the fact that the Public sector prisons are the most successful Public sector group in the country.
I am convinced that the Government don't give a damn about the safety of Prison staff or Prisoners for that matter they just want prisoners & prisons to be out of sight & out of mind.

Happy with learned friend John. But....perhaps I should have used either the word before or after erudite, in my Collins Concise Dictionary.

Prison is only as good as the management and the regimes that are implemented. I did 12 years as an officer varying from young offenders through local and finished off at the Scrubs working in the Seg unit. we were getting con's off the wing who had committed an assault on staff and giving them a TV in their cell. staff were being suspended after allegations by con's oop's sorry inmates without any substancial evidence against them, it was all made very public and some were off for 3 - 4 years. When they went to court no prosecution evidence was presented. Case dismissed. Con's would assault staff with loads of witnesses and medical evidence but were not prosecuted as it was not in the public intrest. I resigned as it was not a fun job any more.

Under british law everyone is entitled to a fair trial, and is innocent until proven guilty.
If a Prisoner makes an allegation against a Prison Officer it is up to the Prison Officer to prove his innocence, a friend of mine who works at a female Prison was accused of entering a cell during the night and raping the inmate, he was suspended for several months whilst the enquiry took place, this female had made similar allegations against staff at every prison she had been to & even accused her solicitor of raping her on a visit to the establishment, when my friend was cleared and reinstated he never received an apology and the woman wasn't punished for the allegations.

If's, buts, and maybe's.

l saw the program too and l think the fat twat on the heap of shit got what he deserved.
Say you had been driving down the motorway with your wife and two kids in the back and were then invoved in a multip le pileup, through not fault of your own where you survived but the rest of your family died, you then find out the culprit was a pissed up biker on a bike with no MOT and the biker survived, would you few him in the same way???????????????????????????

As for the rest, you have my vote.

When put like that, I guess

you're right. Thinking about it, I couldn't see the correlation between a dodgy bike and selling drugs to kids. Yep, stick the biker away for a bit, but give the filthy animal dealing drugs longer than poxy six months for christ's sake!

Derek said about a colleague being accused of rape. It just goes to show that the good guys are always the first in the firing line and always the last to get proper recognition and just reward for what can only be described as a shit job with few tea breaks! This country is turning to toss as it's run by a tosser and his band of merry tossers. At least Dick Turpin had the manners to wear a fooking mask!

Another example, several years ago there was a prisoner by the name of Barry Prosser who was killed whilst fighting with staff who were trying to sedate him at Birmingham prison, now I wasn't there so I cannot say whether the staff acted in accordance with the rules what happened later though defies belief, there was an inquiry the officers concerned appeared in court and were found not guilty. end of story? NO they were then tried again and found not guilty surely now this is the end of story? No it went to a third trial and they were found not guilty, they then faced an internal inquiry as a result of that inquiry they were all moved to other prisons with a stain on their characters if a drug dealing scumbag stabs someone to death he goes to court & if found not guilty he cannot be tried again even if he admits to the crime after the verdict.

1) Bring back National Service - 16 to 20 year olds. NO exceptions.

I think that's an incredibly stupid suggestion.

Not only stick complete dregs of our society in to potentially defend our country, but disrupt other peoples' education and careers? d04l1ng

How about just sticking real offenders (drug dealers, paedos, lawyers) to work in shitty jobs like litter-picking, graffitti removals, etc.
