This is a question for Rhino (or any one else that knows anything constructive about Busas).
I have just ridden a 2000 Busa as its on my short list for my next bike, does any one know how much better the 2006 model is over the 2000? Is the handling any better? The old 2000 wallows a bit for my liking.. I assume it must be better due to natural progression. I believe the update has got the gixxer 1000 brakes so that should improve on things. Would the whole thing benefit from a power commander?
Now you have had yours for a while John, whats your opinion?

Zippo - how many miles has the 2000 Busa done - is it simply a case that it needs new suspension?

Hi BOTS.
The 2000 belongs to a mate of mine and its only got 23,000 mls on the clock, the suspension is factory set and as he is a right tight wad so its a dead cert the suspension has been on it from new! It just feels very lardy because / even though its 6 yrs old.
I know the brake systems on the older models needed a bit of sorting but I thought the suspension should have been better although as you say it might be sha$$ed.
Have you been on a 2006 model?

Paul,
I rode loads of bikes before i bought this.
In my view it is far better than the 2000 model, feels more positive, holds its line better too. My mate has a 4000 mile 'X' plate which i've ridden and it feels awful compared to the 'K' model.

The fuel injection has been smoothed out on this model, the brakes are keen, the susp is good for what it does and i have NO intention of changing for any other bike at this moment.
They are a steal for what you get ? for ?.

Brakes are identical on all Hayabusas and the stock pads are rubbish many owners fit Bendix Supersport pads which are as much better than EBC HH pads as the EBC are better than stock. If the 2000 bike has it's original rear shock at that mileage it will be shot and is most likely the cause of your "wallowing", but help is at hand because you can do a direct-swap with a K5 GSXR1000 shock which is far better, offers a softer ride and better dapming control. Many drag racers fit the 1000 shock for better damping. I actually have a K4 model shock on mine, which is coming off again since it's too soft for my long arm. What the later bikes do have are titanium nitrided forks which have less sticktion than the older bikes.

The 99 and 2000 bikes had a different type of ECU with less teeth on the trigger wheel and 8-bit technology whereas the later ECU's were 32-bit. Poor low-down running is usually due to the TPS being out but they all have a slight stumble down low if they have a full system fitted and no mapping due to the mixture going very rich over a narrow rev band. Once mapped it can be barely noticeable. The 'busas don't have the XX's legendary smooth power delivery but then not many bike have. It's not as bad as some will have you believe.

Hi Guys.
Thanks for all the replies so far, your veiws are welcome.
Pete.
To be honest I had a 2004 Bird and I thought it was very snatchy but I fitted a Power Commander the problem was solved, and with it I got more miles to the gallon so I will do the same if I get a Busa.
The tip with the K5 shock sounds a good way to go should I need it, and I will most certainly put a few washers in to raise the ride hight so it turns sharper as I did with my Bird.
Cheers Zippo

Raising the rear ride-height is easy. The rear suspension links are 12mm holes at 118mm centres. You need to get shorter ones by about 9mm for an inch rise in ride hieght (although I only ever make them longer for lowering). You can also lower the front and make a more comfortable ride by fitting spacers under the handlebar plate. I just made some for my mate 15mm thick but some go a little more. It takes the weight off your wrists and allows you to drop the forks 15mm through the yokes also.
