why do so many people screw their faces up and say 'I'll never live in a bungalow' / 'I'm too young to live in a bungalow'?

I have done it for about twenty five years and think it's great. Couple of two storey houses before that, can't think of anything I miss.

Years ago, when I had Newfoundlands the wife at the time and I seriously considered moving into a bungalow.
Far better for the dogs...they could be a bit over-enthusiastic on stairs and the vets bills for dogs that big have to be seen to be believed.
Plus meeting a 14st mutt barrelling down the stairs is not going to end well for you.

Couldn't agree more. You tend to get a bigger plot so more garden. Bollocks to these rip off 3 storey "town houses" where you need an oxygen mask to go to bed and it takes 20 minutes to nip to the kitchen for a brew. Apparently it's the modern way and nothing to do with the developers

From a builders perspective its the design of a lot of bungalows that are the problem, as an example who wants a bedroom right next to the front door facing the street even if there is a decent length driveway ? (common design) if not that its the kitchen in plain view of the street when you get up in ya jimjams early in the morning?

Well planned bungalows I don't have a problem with but many are not imho

The last bungalow I lived in was our smallholding, it was massive & built with natural stone, four large bedrooms, smallest was 17’ x 14’, lounge was 32’ x 28’, the driveway was about 250’ long nice views from three sides until some arsehole built houses next to us.

One of the big advantages of bunglows is they "attract" the more mature resident. It tends to be quieter in the evenings, but the payback is thay they get up at oh silly hundred hours to do a spot of early morning gardening during the warmer weather.

Interesting. A lot of the bungalows down here have their living room at the front which to my mind is not a good thing. Ours runs right along the back so,we enjoy the garden.

I suppose we are lucky as we are in a very quiet cul de sac so bedrooms at the front aren't an issue for us.

Some arsehole built houses next to my last bungalow.....but as I sold the plot to a developer I really couldn't complain too much.........:Laie_22mini:

When we saw the plans for the houses they showed as being half way down level with the front paddock, whhen they were built they were towering over my bungalow, council’s response “our bungalow was shown in the wrong place on the plans, architect’s surname “North” builder “David North”

I think Andy bought a bungalow because Mrs AB said ‘Andy, let’s run upstairs and make passionate love ..!’
Andy replied ‘At my age, it’s one or the other !! I can’t do both !’

I live in a four bed, three storey townhouse. Our lounge, diner and kitchen are on the ground floor, our bedroom is on the middle floor with another and there’s two more up top. I like it and wouldn’t fancy a bungalow although I might if I grow up.

like I said its all down to the design mate, from what I have seen the bigger bungalows on slightly more expensive areas around here are well thought out but a lot of the smaller older ones are very poorly designed,

Quite a few around here are jammed close together with the first 15 feet of the driveway shared between two properties before they split into separate drives which is all well & good until the idiot next door comes home pissed at 4am right under your bedroom window

Some of the older ones even have a single driveway serving two garages behind the bungalows, personally I'd never live in one of those

Having said all that we nearly bought a bungalow before getting this place, nice big corner plot with separate drive & a living room that went front to back with big windows either end & the bedrooms, kitchen etc off to the side behind the garage, it was a renovation project so I backed out of all that work but knowing what I know now about the amount of work this place needed it was a mistake :(
