Been to see (another) cardio specialist at the hospital today. My heart function has been 'erratic' since my last heart attack and the resulting heart failure status. After much discussion, percentages for if I do this/that/nothing, the question was asked 'So do you want an implanted defibrillator?'
After a further series of questions the answer was 'Yes'
So in about 5 weeks time I get some onboard technology fitted.
Nervous - slightly!

Sounds like a good thing to me.

Let's hope that electrics similar to the Blackbird aren't involved.

A couple of our prisoners have them, amazing things (not prisoners) they detect when a heart is going to go berzy quack & activate the defib, technology is brilliant.

That is exactly what they told me I need to have fitted,

There were a couple of provisos.

The recipient needs to be in the right frame of mind before they will even consider fitting it and you are nt allowed to drive or ride for 1 month after fitment on top of which if it ever gos off accidentally (as they can do apparently) that writes off another month of not being ab;e to drive or ride.

So for the moment I have told my cardiologist that I am not in position to agree and it is on hold, but eventually I will have to have it done.

On the plus side, my ticker has held pretty stable since my diagnosis (says I looking for a very large piece of wood to touch)

I asked a surgeon after one of our cons had one fitted what would happen to the Officer on the other end of the cuffs if the defib activated, the Surgeon smiled & said “he would feel it, might even get a stiffy” then walked off laughing.

It's the odds of living (less than 5%) after a sudden cardiac attack that made me agree to one. The way it was sold that it's there as an insurance policy, but hopefully it will never be needed. Was quite happy with my fitness, but having the impaired heart function makes you a prime candidate for a cardiac attack.
Yes, no driving for a month after fitting. You have to inform the DVLA. The one I'm having doesn't have any wires going into the heart, works more like the paddles that they shock you with. They set the activation level at above 200 bpm for a sustained period, so the odd high heart rate during exercise doesn't set it off.

Have they mentioned the stuff that can mess with it once its fitted ?

Example a mate has had one for years, he cant go into Iceland freezer centres as the concentration of fridge motors frig around with the thing & makes him ill, he can also no longer weld or be near a working welder

I wonder if it has a button to press so that the wearer can get a stiffy on demand?

According to my calculations doctor...Everyone but the user of said 'implanted defibrillator' would get a stiffy in iceland centres.

The only caution is not to have a mobile phone within 15cm (6" old money) Other items at a greater distance are not a problem.

Translation: If six inches doesn’t do it, you’re either not managing the situation well enough, or you’re in big, big trouble.
