Well the time as come to MOT my bike, well it turns out it ran out last week oopsc7u8. So took a look over the bike to see if it would pass. Rear tyre on the limit but new pair Pilot Road 3 sitting in the garage waiting to be fitted. So onto the brakes. Rear looks low fronts not so bad so go take a look at the service manual to check the thickness limits and it says New 5.0mm service limit 4.0mm. Am I to understand that the pads need replacing after only 1mm of use:dunno: Or do it mean I have 4mm of use therfore can go down to 1mm.
I use EBC HH if that makes any differance.

cheers guys. It was the disk I was reading, there was no referance to the amount of pad left. What is the groove limit you refer to? is it the big groove than runs down the centre seperating the pads in two?

I found that EBC pads have no where near the amount of material the OEM have!!!

Roy
.

Interesting that Roy..
One of the big problems I often come across is they are too thick for the very first of the Birds..
They ( Honda ) seemed to have altered the callipers after the first year and made the gap about 1.5mm wider

Also found, in general, EBC HH's last somewhat longer than the standard pads

Just changed my chain and sprockets, dealer reckons they were the manufacturers originals. Not bad for 45,000 miles I reckon.

Cant see that, I have a spare set of new OEM front pads that a friend gave me after he sold his Bird, and I'd reckon they have less not more.
They're in 4 segments with 3 grooves, compared to two large segments and one groove for the EBC's, meaning the extra grooves equals less pad material and therefore shorter life.
And they're exactly the same thickness as far as I can tell.
