Is it as simple as the issue I had with more than one set of EBC pads on the Birds…………pads manufactured too thick? Solved by taking the anti squeal plates off the back.

Yes I had that with a set of EBC. I didnt think of your fix and spent ages with some sandpaper on a flat plate!

If it has an aftermarket lever then the actuating part can be slightly too long so it sits on the piston just a fraction depressing it and causing the brake to bind

Had that a few times on different bikes with aftermarket levers and even with a replacement stock one from honda, whip the lever off work the piston with a blunt rod and see if it still sticks (y)

Failing that check the return hole is actually clear and you can see clear fluid coming back to the cylinder as Troubleshooter mentions above

As mentioned, borrowed a known good master and it did the same
It has got after market levers but there is plenty of slack, plus when I swapped over masters I used the lever that was on it
The pads are new but only because when I got the bike the issue was present and the twat had ridden in until the pads were worn out and the disk was fubah

i tell you lads, this has got me baffled.. I am starting to suspect some sort of partial blockage in the caliper.. Sadly the bike I was using to swap bits from is not local to me and it has had to go back to its owner as he uses it to commute
I was sure it was not caliper related so never swapped it.. I wish I had !
But if a swapped caliper did not cure the issue then what would I have done !!
Found a pre owned caliper on fleabay so might have to bite the bullet on that

Does it have OEM discs or after market ones.?

If you have tried everything else then the caliper is the prime suspect plus if the previous owner had abused it might there be some warping going on.

I seem to remember having a problem with EBC pads on a Vtec which are the same. The thickness was Ok but the pads had a slight bend in them causing the binding

I once had a problem with a push bike I was building, no matter how many times I stripped the brakes they kept binding, eventually I removed the wheel & stripped it down & found that some of the bearings were missing.

I was thinking along the same lines last night
Got up early and tried loosening the caliper bolts.. before applying brake
I think that did it
Caliper must have been abused so much it almost melted and the body distorted

Replacement on the way so time will tell

OEM pads... and they are as flat as a flat thing that has been flattened :)

All I can say is that with your expertise when it comes to bikes if you can't fix it no one can

If the discs are OEM then check the thickness. I had a similar problem with a set for my old Thundercat and it turned out that they were thicker than stock.

Knew a guy who spent a lot customising a Harley
He got these very fancy expensive discs.
The back brakes kept overheating and seizing. Don't know end of story.
He spent thousands on extras on another Harley.
Overheard him talking about trip to Spain.
"It was ok if you kept it at about 60"
It seems otherwise it was all over the place.

Caliper and caliper bracket
Caliper and bracket cleaned, inspected, serviced and fitted

Fookin thing is exactly the same

Tomorrow I am putting a straight edge on the mounting points on the fork leg
What ever this is, it has GOT to be a weird one !!

Long shot and no wish to teach grandad to suck eggs but...... sometimes the sequence for tightening the axle and axle clamp bolts can affect how the caliper bracket/disc line up?

Sorted !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As I said, I put a straight edge on the caliper mounts on the fork leg
Looks like someone had the problem before ( possibly.......... I have NO idea what they were thinking )
One of the mounting lugs had had about 1.25mm shaved off it.. Impossible to spot with the naked eye
It meant the caliper was twisted
Took the leg out and milled the lugs level
Keeping every digit I have crossed I stuck it back together and Lo ! It worked !!!
