I have some along with the split washers & will be fitting them over the weekend, I realise the range of adjustment will be limited but I don't actually need much to get where I want to be so a more expensive option with more adjustment would be pointless @tu*

I did a search on this but no real information popped up so before I start does anyone have any advice ? I will work it out anyway but anyone who has done it may be able to save me a little time

Thanks newbie that confirmed that I will need to shorten the spacer or the springs will be preloaded even with the adjusters right out, I just need to figure out how much I need to take off now @tu*

How far do you need to lower the bike ?

I need to get to the centre of the adjustment range so I can preload the springs or not as I please :-0)

So set the preload cap in the middle of it's range
sit it next to an oem cap

and the difference in the spring seat positions is the amount you need to remove from the spacer.

Thanks Deano, that's pretty much what I'd thought, I just wanted to check if I was missing something @tu*

I did wonder how much preload there was with stock caps & thought I may need to take that into account

Well that didn't work out quite as planned :whi5tl:

My springs although seem to be stock length are not stock Honda, my spacers are stock (or were :-0) )

So with the weight off the bike the stock tops preloaded the springs by approximately 10mm but with the bandit washers & the tops wound out until the damper nut was flush with the underside of the top but fully showing they would have been preloaded by another 10mm approximately, way too much

After thinking a while I realised I was never going to need to back the preload off from stock by very much so took 12mm off the spacers & that gave me just over the stock 10mm of preload with the adjusters wound down to the first line

After a little adjustment static sag is a nice 20mm & a very quick road test shows it to be much better on the (delinked) brakes but a little harsh on the rebound but much better than it was, some messing with oil may be required to damp that out but all in all I'm pleased with how it went

When I did mine many years ago nobody mentioned shortening the spacers, so I didn't. It was quite hard getting the springs compressed and the caps on! I've not had a problem with them since and the bike doesn't go wide in corners anymore so I've left them as they were! Perhaps I need to sort them out some time.

If you have been happy with how it rides for years I would leave well enough alone mate :-0)

I only shortened my spacers because I am quite light & wanted the option of backing off the preload a little if I needed to, also my springs are not stock Honda, I presume that makes a difference
